Maybe they were in such a rush to get the fight done that they decided they'd take the risk that he was on something because they figured Kovalev would beat him anyway. Or maybe she's the kind of promoter who doesn't ask whether their fighters are clean but makes no effort to push for better testing because if things are going well now, why even take the slightest risk of it all going up in smoke because of a drug test?

Hard to know what really goes on behind closed doors though. To me it seems like if Momo is involved with Pascal, you should want him tested as much as possible. Pascal probably would've refused VADA though like he eventually did, but it does seem like something I'd want them to at least attempt even if they didn't make it a deal breaker.

Normally, Kovalev is of course much better, but when there is no drug test Memo can really boost the fighter's speed and power with his illegal drugs.

Kathy Duva should have used a planned strategy when she started to negotiate with Pascal. Maybe Pascal knows that he is without any chance if he must test with VADA because he cannot use Memo's synthetic testosterones then, but that should have been Kathy Duva's approach from the start.

However, as you say, Kathy Duva might not be 100% sure that Sergey is clean, but why suggest VADA-testing to Jean Pascal then in the conference call? Do you mean she was trolling because she already knew that Pascal would refuse it?

Kathy Duva still doesn't seem aware of what Memo is capable of doing when there is no testing, and Pascal now knows that Kovalev is clean because Duva wanted VADA testing, which is stricter.

It is Kathy Duva's responsibility to protect her fighters but on Saturday Sergey will not be protected because Jean Pascal has used Memo's illegal drugs to enhance his performance. Pascal will be much faster and more powerful than he usually is. Pascal will also be able to take much more punishment than usual.

It might result in a much bloodier affair than was expected, and the losers in the end will be the fighters.

To me it seems like she JUST FOUND OUT about Memo and is NOW CONCERNED but before it seemed like she wasn't concerned at all then to not make themselves look bad they counter with VADA after the fight was already signed sealed and delivered so again BOTH SIDES DROP THE BALL in this situation, it was handled very unprofessional on both sides but now as the fight draws close you can't all of a sudden have these concerns.

Well, Kathy Duva gave Memo permission to give Pascal anything because without any test Memo can use anything. That means Pascal will be much, much faster and have much more power than usual.

Kathy Duva's naivety i breathtaking, and she is risking her fighters' health in the process.


Memo is normally an expert in passing USADA's tests with his synthetic testosterones which cannot be detected by USADA. VADA on the other hand easily detects most of Memo's illegal drugs.
