Why would top rank lose money on cotto fights and overpay him just to keep him at top rank? The only reason roc nation is throwing huge money at fighters is because they need to make a name for themselves. Once they get enough good fighters, then they dont have to overpay because they will have fighters locked into contracts and they need to make a profit. Cotto is a good pickup for roc nation, but top rank still has a sizable stable of highly popular and profitable fighters. Alot of the up and coming fighters arum has too like Loma and Crawford. Of course he has Manny and Marquez and Tim Bradley who are the top 3 at top rank right now. Mikey Garcia, Brandon Rios, and bonito donaire are very popular fighters. Gilberto Ramirez looks to be a real threat in the 168 lb division. Of course Nicholas Walters is probably king of the featherweights, along with Loma and gradovich who also fight for top rank. Crawford is moving up to 140 and so is Mikey, it will be interesting to see how they do. Also Jesse Vargas is top 10 at 140. This by no means somehow signals the end of top rank. If anything it signifies that boxing is a diverse sport and there will always be promoters competing and it is healthy for the sport as long as promoters like haymon learn to work with the competition for the sake of the fans. Haymon can play his games like blocking fights and venues, but its not like top rank and golden boy are going anywhere so he may as well start making the fights us fans want.

TR has nothing to offer as fighters go. They offered Rios, Bradley and K9, none credible opponents. Maybe K9 if Cotto drops back down.

They were on a fight by fight basis si I don't understand what is all the fuzz about when Cotto does have his own promotional company

When Todd speaks of 'conduct' I know exactly what he means.
Cotto is known for his Prima Donna ways and it's going to come back and bite him on the ass.
In the age of Haymon, there are few loyalists left.

Again, ask yourself, "why would Cotto not sign with Top Rank, but then sign with Roc Nation?" Why are these top fighters like Oscar, Floyd, Rigo, Mikey Garcia, Gamboa, Chavez Jr., etc., all have a problem with Bob Arum?

It is what it is, Todd knows you can only do so much with a verbal agreement, they didn't have Cotto under contract, so Cotto goes and signs with Roc Nation for some big money I would imagine. So Roc has Ward and Cotto now let's see them in some events this year.

That just goes to show that Todd and Top Rank was expecting Cotto to return.
