Never fought guys like Charlie Burley and Archie Moore when AM was was a MW.

Still, one of the best ever. TBE is a silly phrase, IMO.
I tend to agree with this. And I also agree that "TBE" is crap.

Armstrong was way past his prime. Most those other guys were old school brawlers. I think SRR's best wins were against Kid Gavilan.

LaMotta was horribly overrated. Basilio was very tough, but he lost 16 fights out of 79 and wasn't in the same class as:

          Hearns
          Duran
          Benitez
          Hagler

Sorry I have to spell it out for ya
Duran was a lightweight who was out of his prime in the second fight.

Hagler was robbed. But anyway Robinson beat LaMotta and Basillio who are equal to Hagler.

Hearns was a good victory but Robinson beat Kid Gavilán twice which is a better victory.

Beneitez? Robinson has a ton of victories better then him.

Wait a minute. I think TS has a point here. I mean if we weren't there then how do we know what happened. This completely changes everything. Who really won WW 1 & 2? We're the Persians, conquistadors and Mongolian empire over hyped? Damn...

I was never around to meet Isaac Newton, but I don't dispute the discovery of gravity; it's received wisdom from sources I trust and whatever empirical conclusions I can come to myself. Same for SRR.

Hagler was robbed of a draw maybe. Hagler was completely unable to impose his will on him. And you've got LaMotta and Basilio equal to Hagler?? That's an eccentric point of view, highly unusual. Can't see it. They lost a million fights and had nothing like Hagler's skills. Not even close.

Gavilán was SRR's best victory (twice) in my view. Yep. Better than Hearns? Why? Maybe close.

What slick boxer like Benitez did SRR beat? Any names?

Duran was incredibly good even at WW and Leonard beat him fair and square the second time.

SRR: Gavilán, Basilio, LaMatta and an old Armstrong
                    SRL: Duran, Benitez, Hearns, Hagler

                    Leonard beat the better guys.

Lots of respect for the elders, which is great.

But many people automatically give props to the old guys and downplay the accomplishments of today's fighters, without even thinking it over.

You see it happening all the time with Floyd, who deserves mention with Robinson and Leonard in my view, though he's probably a better 140 than 147.
