    my golden gloves result

I won. 3 round decision. My 1st fight back since early 2004, and my 1st win since my 1st fight in 2002. My record is now 2-3, so I'm finally working my way to getting an overall winning record and more experience. 5'8'' 147 lbs (me) vs 5'9'' 140 lbs (him)

Negative parts of the fight: I fell down once on a slip. Another time, I got my legs crossed up and punched by the opponent at the same time which resulted in a knock down. In the ams this doesn't matter much as the only thing that is scored are punches landed. I got more tired than I should have been, but had more experience than the other guy so it equaled out. I fought a bit dirty on the inside (pushing, locking) at times. I forgot my defense a bit as well as other things that I did better in sparring.

Positive aspects: I landed more punches, and hurt him with a great bodyshot in the 3rd round that caused him to run away. Landed some good lefthooks. The few times I did throw my 3-2 combo they would land well. Good aggression and determination.

One problem is my mouth always bleeds so easily because my gums. It always happens no matter what mouthpiece I use. It affects my stamina due to the blood-swallowing which impedes air and gives cramps. Gotta fix this problem somehow...

Next fight is May 13 in my hometown of Pensacola, so I'm going to have much more time to get ready and will be in great shape.

Also, today is my birthday. Looks like a good week.

          There isn't a max age.

Also, Super_Lightweight, I take it you are doing G/G qualifying matches for the upcoming national tourny on the 22nd of next month?

edit* If so, drop me a line if you end up getting a invite.

We had a guy who was 32, though I don't know the age limit or even if there is one.

Knox, I think I could advance to the State finals here since what we just did was regional. But, they didn't say where the Fl State GGs are or when. They may have said only upper class fighters advance to State, and I'm still novice class. Either way I will be fighting in pcola May 13.

Hum......I've got the nationals coming up on the 22nd, you probably are just fighting your regionals so you can earn a invite to the nationals in Ohmaha.

I was watching some golden gloves competition this weekend in Lancaster PA. I usually watch them every year if they are close enough. It was upsetting though cuz amateurs get robbed. There were like 3 fights were the home gym got decisions they clearly didn't deserve. But overall it was cool.
