Who had the better overall career? Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Jr. And tell us why

Jones wasn't a steroid user. He bought over-the-counter Ripped Fuel for his fight with Richard Hall who also tested positive. That was the only incidence ever. Jones was ignorant of one of the contents of the product in terms of what the IBF allowed, but he was not a steroid user.Last edited by richardt; 02-03-2015, 06:14 PM.Comment

Jones beat both Hopkins and Toney. In fact he dominated them. The only fighter on that level Tyson fought while still young was Holyfield and he lost both times. In one of those fights he comply self destructed.
In addition to that, he was totally dominated by Buster Douglas. That would have never happened to a young Roy Jones jr.
James Toney-Jones jr was a marqee fight. So you're completely wrong there and about a lot of other things.Comment

Roy Jones Jr is the first and only man in the history of Boxing to begin his career as a 154 lbs jr middleweight to win a legitmate Heavyweight title.Last edited by Dachozen1; 02-03-2015, 06:31 PM.Comment

I'd rather have a career that takes me to that stratosphere.Comment

My question has always been why though, and you never said why. And you finally answer that Tyson's "boxing" career takes you to another stratosphere. His story is quite interesting, and I grew up a huge fan, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is legendary in my household. Everybody rooted for Tyson, he was the chosen one, but he also failed in his prime.Comment

But mike had a career that maybe only ali and Pele can relate to.
If you were limiting the scope of the question to in the ring only-then Roy. If you are taking everything into it-then IMO it's Mike.Comment

What's with the Tyson worship? You find this sort of stuff amongst your average guy on the street who doesn't know **** about boxing but knows Tyson. On a boxing forum, however, I expect better. If we're talking legacy, Roy Jones is the much greater fighter - he wins this hands down. I know you can rip anybody's legacy apart, but ****ing hell the only prime great fighter Tyson beat was a former light heavyweight. We can talk all day about how Tyson wasn't motivated for Douglas etc, but the fact is he lost to him, and if he wasn't motivated or needed Kevin Rooney, that takes away from his greatness as a fighter. Tyson was a one trick pony - had great skills and athleticism but a **** mentality and if plan A didn't work then he didn't win.
Tyson only lost once in his prime. and he went too prison before he could get a chance too avenge it.
post prison Tyson isn't the same fighter as pre prison Tyson
you know that.Comment
