Check out this link that shows the top earners of 2014 in the UFC. Link: http://mma-manifesto.com/ufc-fighter...0-earners.html

Santa Cruz gets paid more fighting bums. Why is their salary so low compared to boxers? If their PPVs are doing so well, shouldn't their salary should be higher? Thoughts?

that argument has pretty much died in the last few years, i barely hear anyone say that anymore with the exception of a few hardcore mma fans.

Football has taken over baseball as Americas past time but baseball players are making $30 million a year with guaranteed $250 million dollar contracts. Football players are making like $15-$18 million tops.

Who said it was taking over boxing? It's more or less in the same position.

Thing about UFC and MMA vs Boxing... Boxing, because it's so purely focused on striking, is much, much more aesthetically pleasing to watch.

In order for MMA to appear pleasing to the eye, the fighter would need to be an absolute one in a billion athlete... I mean a Roy Jones Jr that can kick with super speed AND can wrestle... There is literally no way for MMA to look "slick" because the fighters are SO FREAKING SLOW.

While boxing uses similar type of marketing... the over-the-top "blood and glory" cliche marketing, it is able to maintain something dignified beyond the necessary cheap marketing campaigns... and that's probably because boxing has such a deep and rich history... boxing began as something from nothing, from the dirt so to speak, before the glitzy WWE type marketing... So while that type of approach is used now to sell fights, we can still recall the true spirit of boxing.... Whereas MMA began by playing right away to the WWE type crowds so it doesn't have the same mystique of boxing, it doesn't have the same humble beginnings.

UFC is much harder to appreciate technically...

In boxing you only have 4 standard punches to understand.

No enjoyment in watching two men roll around on the floor when you have no idea wtf they are doing.

"He's got half guard and is looking for the ****saurus reptilian choke hold!"

UFC might have taken over boxing in your small american town but no way has it taken over boxing in general around the world. Far from it and if I may, it can be compared to NFL vs FIFA. FIFA is a giant compared to the NFL. Americans love MMA, the world loves boxing. Americans love NFL, the world loves soccer. Sorry but that is the truth and the reality of life. MMA will never dominate boxing in a global scale just as American football(more like Rugby with padding) will never take over soccer.

The only place in the whole entire world that UFC is more popular than Boxing is the hillbilly southern US states, and thats going to change as long as Mexicans keep coming in to Texas. Actually...doesn't Boxing sell out the cowboys in Texas? Another win for Boxing. UFC is only for white trash.

Boxers get paid far more because they train much harder, much more skilled, get much better TV ratings, PPV buys and they can sell out arena's by themselves.

                  UFC is also a monopoly

-The PPVs aren't doing astronomical business

-The UFC pays out far less to the actual competitors than almost any other sport.

-The reported figures make no mention of sponsorship money or event residuals, so the actual money figure might be a good bit higher.

-The UFC has moved significantly away from promoting fighters, putting the UFC brand on the forefront.

Outside of what they've recently been trying to do with Connor McGregor, what other star has actually launched beyond the UFC brand?
