To me the issue is not even big vs not big names. The issue is he is not expected to have a 50/50 fight with anybody at MW. The only thing to get excited about is whether he stops someone who wasn't stopped before, and even that is no longer a question we want to tune in to find an answer to as GGG has been very predictable there. So I would want him to move up just for entertainment value. Maybe Groves, Direll, DeGale will make him dig a bit deeper.

Just to make it staright , Froch said he does not want to fight GGG , Lara said he will fight him and was replied by K2 to please send an offer (which he didnt) , i think Lara fights happen if Lara was series.
Ward , now thats one fight that can shut GGG train , i wont deny it , but you guys wanting him to jump through hoops of hell and fight a division above him against the best fighter there instead of letting him grab the lineal championship against an establish figthers , the fact that people still see Cotto as the man in MW (Ring rankings even believes so) is enough for me to give him a pass on jumping up and chase what`s his -> MW lineal undisputed champion. Cotto that ***** who wont defend his paper title against anyone in MW but looking for Floyd to buy the title from him should get all the hate for what he is doing to boxing with his shameful behavior.Comment

Second thing, yes, GGG would get tougher fights against bigger guys if he moved up to 168, but what would be in it for him?
GGG is looking for main stream exposure and the big purses that come with it. The only guys at 168 who could give him what he is looking for are Froch and Chavez Jr. But Froch has already ruled himself of consideration for GGG, and if Jr beats Fonfara he will be fighting Froch next, IF he can still make 168.
Staying at 160 is by far the best option for GGG at the moment. He is mandatory now for the WBC title and a unification match with Cotto would be
a bigger fight than anything he could get at 168.Comment

Golovkin has made it abundantly clear during his reign as the true MW champion that he wants to fight the best in his division and is willing to take on Cotto and Canelo if and when they may decide to take the fight. I don't see how it's his fault that they act like he doesn't exist or may not even be the toughest challenge for him. If they refuse to fight him because they don't have faith in their own ability to compete, that just reinforces Golovkin's superiority at his current, natural weight class.
As much as Golovkin has shown that he is the man to beat at MW and has made easy work of those willing to test his might up until this point, that doesn't mean he should forget about unifying the titles to prove without a doubt that he is the unified, undisputed MW champion. He's made it clear multiple times that this is his focal point and his primary goal. Just because he's had to knock down some pylons along the way, doesn't mean he should drop what he has been working towards this entire time. It's on the other top rated MW contenders and belt holders to prove that they deserve world title accolades by facing the obvious elephant in the room.
If Golovkin were to much up in weight before unifying the MW titles, I'm sure you'd have people posting here criticizing him because he didn't even unify the titles at MW and now he's fighting at SMW.
As far as possible opponents at SMW are concerned, if and when Golovkin does unify the MW division, I don't understand how people could claim fighters like Froch and Chavez Jr. are more legitimate competition than anyone currently at MW. For one, Froch is definitely not interested in facing Golovkin because he has made it clear on several occasions that he wants one last big fight in Vegas to cash out against Chavez Jr. who, if not by accolades in the ring, is a recognized entity because of his namesake. If that fight doesn't come to fruition, it seems more possible that he may square off against another aging vet in the always ready and seemingly superhuman Bernard Hopkins. Yes, I said superhuman because even if Kovalev boxed his ears off, he survived the entire 12 rounds, a feat that none of Kovalev's younger and seemingly fresher opponents have been able to do in recent years. I know Froch has rejected the possibility of that fight and said he will wait to get the bout with Chavez Jr. but I still think it may still be a possibility.
I can completely understand why some people are getting impatient to see Golovkin face somebody who can muster some resistance against him but unfortunately the politics of boxing is to blame for keeping that from possibly happening.
I also hope, like these individuals and Golovkin as well, that he can get the biggest fights at MW with the other belt holders, like he has been asking for all this time, so he can advance from this point in his career and after that, move on to bigger and better things in the foreseeable future.Comment

Yup that's why he created his own weight class and yes it's just above SWW and just below MW. He's in a big rush to fight him but I wonder why he didn't go for him when Cotto walked away, that would have been a very big PPV and I'm not being sarcastic. And for the record I'm with the majority who feel if Cotto is keeping the MW belt he should defend against GGG.Comment

So many people seem to attach Golovkin having a good year with fighting big names, but shouldn't it be about facing the best opponents? The two don't necessarily mean the same thing.
Murray, Lee (WBO), N'Dam (IBF) & whoever (WBC) would represent a great year.Comment
