Its hard to say that he ruined boxing when the man sold so many PPV. Great fighter with a bad attitude. He wants to control everything and boxing is a big business for him since he makes so much money.
I dont hate the man but I cant wait that he retires so we get to see who will take boxing on their shoulder. When he left Manny took it and now Manny is about to retire pretty soon, so lets see what will happen from there.Comment

Floyd created the troll. Worst thing to ever happen to boxing. They just can't shut up. Someone should edit the troll Wikipedia page to include Floyds nuts as a favorite food.Comment

I'm sorry but I have to disagree here Fixes & especially robberies are done blatantly today. Judges make horrendous decisions & nothing is done about it.
Blatantly biased refereeing like both Joe Cortez & Kenny Bayless delivered in making sure neither Ricky Hatton or Marcos Maidana has a chance to fight their fight against Floyd Mayweather. In Mayweather-Maidana 1 referee Tony Weekes did an excellent job calling the fight straight down the middle, letting both fighters fight their fight. Many people myself included thought Maidana did enough to warrant a draw or even sneak the decision. Mayweather immediately complained that Weekes had let Maidana " rough me up & bully me" ROFL I thought this was prize fighting? Floyd thinks its ballet dancing. So Bayless was brought in to stop the bullying
Boxig is just as corrupt if not worse today than in the 50'sComment

You just said everything why he did, except the robberies and his steroid useThis is an in depth analysis so please no trolling. What I want to discuss is when did Floyd Mayweather Jr ruin boxing for you? I know this varies from person to person as it should, but at what point did you say I have had enough? Was it when he flaunted his narsistic persona after becoming the "cash cow"? Was it one of the many times he ducked and dodged a Manny Pacquiao fight? Was when his violent nature toward females became apparent? Was it when he said "Health comes first"? Was it when he retired avoiding top oppostiom via Margarito, Williams, Cotto, Pacquiao, etc? Was it when he consistantly overrated himself? Was it when he would avoid interview questions and make up complete lies saying he fights who the fans want him to fight? Was it when his blatant rascism became apparent towards Pacquiao? Was it when he hypocritically bashes PED's when he himself uses xylocaine to numb his hands (only illegal in Nevada)? Was it when he lies before a fight saying he will give a great competitive fight but instead runs and outpoints for a UD? I guess for a me its a culmination of all these things. I really want to hear the boxing fans moment when they knew Floyd Mayweather Jr ruined boxing. And to those trolls satirically backing Floyd, please take it somewhere else. Trying to have a civil discussion here.Last edited by Luilun; 01-26-2015, 09:45 AM.Comment

Not ruined, but jaded a bit. The false retirement and unanswered PED questions have bugged me, but that's mainly due to him making a "song and dance" about everything.
In terms of boxing its more about manipulation. His treatment of belts has been poor regarding Mandatories, which a lot of fighters do, but when you appoint yourself "TBE" only good examples should be set.
His (contractual) PPV opponents could have been better, which will be further justified if he follows MM2 with the rumoured Cotto rematch. Not just because there are better fights out there, but a guy he comfortably UD'd? is that really worth $32M, our time or even respect?
It all comes down to your expectations of boxing really, but one thing most would agree on is that Floyd is a Dreadful ambassador for boxing, not his domestic disputes and such, but his knack of saying the wrong thing at the worst time whenever he is questioned in public. Everyone says things they dont mean, but at that level of the sport people take note and expectations are raised.
This is just in relation to Floyd as per the thread title, but there are other figures in boxing who I think undermine the sport.Comment
