But Gatti is? Margarito was much better and accomplished more than Gatti.

Just imagine if Floyd would of fought Margarito, Williams, Cotto(at the time), and maybe others. NO ONE unless true haters would question his greatness.

Ask Arum, he made Mayweather vs Gatti aferall; why didn't he make Floyd fight Margarito when they were TR? Why did Arum offered Floyd a fight with Margarito after he left Top Rank, after the lawsuit? He didn't want to make Mayweather-DLH cause he didn't like DLH. He didn't want to make Mayweather-Cotto cause he wanted to let it marinate, he didn't want to make Mayweather-Margarito, when they were in TR. So Floyd left. What did you want him to do, keep fighting the Bruseles's and Mitchell's of the world? Arum was not getting him the fights he wanted, he asked for DLH and Cotto and was rejected by Arum.

BTW, Gatti was #1 ranked at 140, WBC champion when Floyd fought him. He also made Boardwalk Hall his home. Margarito never had that effect on fans. Gatti will be engraved in boxing history as an entertaining fighter and a warrior, a Hall of Famer. Margarito will go down as a cheater and nothing else.

What the hell has a win over Margarito ever done for any bodies legacy? It didn't do anything to enhance PWills legacy. Did Daniel Santos become a star? After Margarito was the WW champ shot to **** Mosley toyed with him for 9 rounds than put him to sleep.

It's less that Margarito on his resume helps him and more that not fighting him hurts his legacy. I truly believe Floyd deserves to be mentioned with the ATG's, yet his legacy, at that level, become more about the guys he didn't fight than the ones he did.

Also I believe that Margarito would have been a difficult fight for Floyd in terms of styles. The name might not mean much, but the fight would for his legacy. Look at Bradley vs Provodnikov. No one is saying beating Peovodnikov makes you an ATG, but the way Bradley fought back is the kind of stuff legacies are made of.

to add to this only held the WBO title and that's not much incentive when at the time Mayweather had won lineal titles at 3/4 weight classes he competed in.

His biggest win didn't come until Mayweather retired when he beat Cotto

All in all Margarito was never a great fighter, he did notch some good wins but this boogeyman that Floyd avoided isn't what I see.

Just another fighter who gained hype because his promoter kept bring up Mayweather's name

in retrospect, Is a win over Margarito more meaningful than wins over Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Shane Mosley, Genaro Hernandez, Canelo Alvarez, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, or Cotto?
No wonder you got Red K you know sht about boxing. Margarito was a solid guy and very avoided fighter at welterweight. Might have been due to his plaster but that was not known at the time.
