Not yet seen the fight but Vlasov is no joke, this fight had tough decision written all over it.

Hes still a young kid with time on his side but like Thurman a few weeks back - Never got the stoppage so he must suck.

Looking at it critically Ramirez did struggle at times in this fight. He was getting hit with clean shots throughout (more worrying was that it seemed to be the same shots over and over), and struggled to really get going against a very awkward Vlasov. He maybe struggled with altitude, Vlasov's awkwardness or maybe was just stiff due to it being his first test and first fight on HBO proper, but he seemed lethargic and lackedthe snap in his shots which ive seen in past fights

Looking on the positive side, he came through his first test and won a pretty comfortable decision against a game opponent, hes still young and and has time to keep learning his craft.

Imo we should judge him on how he adjusts after this performance, not on the performance itself

Very different scenarios so can't really compare. Thurman was unfairly criticized for putting up a dominant shutout while the hyped up Ramirez struggled and failed to impress with glaring flaws on full display.

the only thing i saw that i didnt like, is a lack of urgency and killer instinct. i think everything else can be fixed. i just didnt see the intensity that i usually see in great fighters.

fight was boring as hell. ramirez looks average too me. then again there are many 2-3 actual good fighters at super middleweight. so maybe he could grab a paper belt someday

Ramirez is definitely still a work in progress. What may have contributed to the less than stellar performance was the altitude and Vlasov's unorthodox movement. I don't think I've ever seen anybody with movement as awkward as Vlasov. And Ramirez needs to tighten up that defense. Vlasov's straight right couldn't miss.

Also I noticed that Ramirez snapped Vlasov's head back a few times in the first 2 rounds with some nice jabs. After that he pretty much abandoned the jab. He needs to work on throwing a consistent jab. And as Andre Ward pointed out, it seems like Ramirez can't shift gears, he fights at one speed the whole fight. I think a good trainer would help Ramirez too.

He looked like a super middle weight Antonio DeMarco in there last night, I had him winning a close decision by a point.

Haha ur funny. Hyped up Ramirez? Nobody and very few here on nsb knew who he was. Yet Thurman couldn't ko a freaking 40 year old bum who was undefeated beating lesser bums. The Russian is ranked pretty high in a higher weight class

Por eso somos hermanos, I completely agree entirely. His jab was snapping Vlasov's head back during the first few rounds but Ramirez abandoned the punch and was relying on his power to attempt to get a KO. Sadly he was fighting a LHW, I'm sure Vlasov has felt much harder punches from bigger men. I also think the altitude could have been a factor. Oh well, let's see how he looks against another good name but at SMW this time around. I'm not backing out, full support for El Zurdo.

By the way, did you see Abner Lopez beat Aik Shakhnazaryan down? I know Abner might not be anything special but damn, 2 fights this year and January isn't even over yet . I loved his body attack and his power is legit, I noticed Erik Morales has quite a few decent fighters under his banner.
