As BoxingScene.com first reported earlier today, Golden Boy Promotions and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez were unable to reach an agreement for a May 2nd fight with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. The two sides are now moving in different directions.
De La Hoya made it clear that Canelo has every intention of still moving forward on May 2nd.
However, there are ongoing negotiations for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face Manny Pacquiao in a super-fight - also on the date of May 2. Although Pacquaio and his promoter, Top Rank, have reached an agreement for their end of the deal - De La Hoya has serious doubts about the fight actually coming off.
