I hate to say it, but it does sound like Canelo is being a diva here, and is acting egotistically and impulsive.
I am not surprised because I have seen him act impulsive and lose his cool before, on live TV he was being interviewed with Marquez on Mexican TV, and JMM criticized Canelo for not making weight for his fights, and Canelo got very angry and challenged JMM to a fight.
Who cares about the deadline? If negotiations are moving, then keep going with it. You can negotiate with someone else at the same time. This is classic angry impulse move, doing something to spite someone else, but in the process you are also harming yourself. Canelo is harming himself, because Cotto is a legit opponent that you can hang on your resume, a huge fight, and he is quite soft and ripe for the picking now. Its really the absolute perfect time to fight Cotto. He's out of his prime, but off the Martinez it will be considered a legit win over a hall of famer. Nobody takes the wins over old Mosley seriously.
Theres no other opponent for Canelo that is this big and this easy.
