This is bad news cause if Canelo-Cotto doesn't happen, that also may mean that Mayweather-Pacquiao doesn't happen either because Canelo-Cotto is the only fight that would have competed with May-Pac on May 2nd.... Now that there's no competition for the 5 de Mayo date, Mayweather can fight whoever and still get the date... but I get the feeling Cotto was stalling because he's waiting on a better offer to fight Mayweather in May... That would be some move by team Mayweather if they get Cotto for May... They get to keep the date, make big money, take away Cotto from Canelo and once again avoid the Pacquiao fight.... That is boxing nowadays sigh

If Mayweather decides to rematch Cotto in May.......that will essentially be the end of his career. No one will watch this fight out of contempt for both boxers and the network will lose out massively, I am sure all parties have considered this. Hahaha! Canelo got EMOTIONAL about a man thing. Instead of relaxing and understanding it is only January, he let his peasant self esteem, get the best of him. His OWN internal issues of feeling less-than, got in the way to the point where he spent the entire time, trying to prove to himself, that he was important with his silly little peasant "deadlines."

5 DEADLINES smh. You guys make it seem like terms were agreed upon & Cotto refused to sign. Gaby has confirmed it was over the purse split. Canelo could have agreed to Cotto's terms just as easy as Cotto could have agreed to Canelo's. Instead of giving deadlines maybe he should have been compromising. When was 3 other times? Ducking Canelo for the MW champion of the world is stepping up not avoiding. How many MW's has Canelo fought even though hes' been at MW for 3 fights. Hell except for Floyd the only JMW he's fought have all been at MW for that matter. His entire time at 154 he fought WW and JWW's. At least Cotto fights guys in their division not always one above it.

Cotto had the better hand at negotiations nothing more, he was able to make Canelo go to June in NY AND for less money but Canelo wouldn't even move off the date. They want to hurt Mayweathers pocket more than he wants to have a great win for his legacy and a title at MW.

This says it all right here. Please tell me what changed in Canelo's demands from the outset? From the start of talks they said Vegas, 50/50, May 2nd and that's all there is to it. Canelo hasn't budged on anything except for the money and we don't know how little or how much. Floyd could also very well be negotiating with Cotto and Floyd is simply saying we'll match what they offer you. If Cotto makes the same money against Canelo and Floyd there's only one fight he's taking and that's Floyd. You can't even begin to compare Canelo to Floyds legacy.

My point is Canelo could have accepted the purse split that Cotto and his team were looking for. Instead of saying this is the offer and here is your deadline(s) he could have agreed to the split and I'm sure a deal would have been done. It's always about money. Is it right that Cotto wanted more money? Maybe not, but both parties are to blame.

According to Oscar and Canelo they agreed to all of Cotto's demands. This was not so much about money as Cotto being the diva he is. We witnessed this during the Martinez fight when Martinez kept saying that Cotto would threaten to walk away if every single meaningless demand wasn't made.
Remember the Cotto/Margarito 2 fight? Everything was agreed to but Cotto still would not sign because he wanted a catchweight fight for the Margarito fight. He wanted to drain Margarito to 150 with a rehydration clause. Arum said the fight was even in danger of not happening because of it. Here Canelo had said he'd already given in to all of Cotto's demands. They even said they were willing to move the date to June and travel to NYC if the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight came off.



And yes I do agree giving a deadline is lame, but gain Oscar and Canelo had to do it. They could not wait and wait for Cotto just to see him make a backhand deal at the last minute with Mayweather.
