Boxing Scene's history section, from what little I've read, has more problems than BoxRec has.
Joe Gans didn't win any middleweight title on May 12, 1902 or ever even fight in England. He won the lightweight title on that day with a 1st round KO of Frank Erne and was the first Black American to hold a boxing world championship. (There were 2 black champions before him: Canadian George Dixon and the original Joe Walcott from Barbados. Born in British Guyana)
So whatever source Boxing Scene was using comes up short as compared to BoxRec.
He also never gave that title up as some suggest. He defended it right up until losing it to Battling Nelson in their second fight in 1908, probably while suffering the effects of tuberculosis.
I didn't read past that but if you're going to do a history section it might bode you well to know some history. There are two biographies out about Gans now. Both informative but William Gildea's is the best read, imo.

They are not perfect but they are pretty reliable. Their rankings are good and they are terrific source of information. I am a long time super boxing fan and boxing is the only sport I care about. I can't keep track of all the good fighters. Boxrec lets me see a fighter's entire pro record and the record of all his opponents. They let me know where they rank him and where they rank all his opponents. There is nowhere else you can get that much information on a fighter.Comment
