How reliable have you found BoxRec to be?

Well I'm sure they still go off their computer generated ratings. So that's why Herrera is ranked so low. His recent two losses, which should have been wins, bump him down a lot. That's the problem with a computer generated ranking system you can't really factor in human opinion, which is why some of their rankings come out looking pretty wacky at times. But I don't mind it, at least it's something different. They should continue tweaking it though.
Ah ok, no wonder why their rankings always look screwy. Didn't know they were computer generated. Computer generated rankings are ******ed as hell, just lazy on BoxRec's part.
I go to Boxrec for the fighters fight history and weights and what not. They also let you know who's fighting in your area.Comment

BoxRec can be very conservative with some records, especially for older and foreign fighters. If they can't verify the fight then they won't list it on the record. I'm not saying that isn't a good policy, but just because you don't see it there doesn't mean it didn't happen. Whenever you see a foreign fighter with a very sparse record and he's fighting in 10 or 12 round fights, be su****ious.Comment

if it turns out mayweather-pacman actually happens then i have a hunch boxrec has an inside man that leaked the deal and then had to subsequently take it down. i also remember them being right about the ortiz fight and trout-lara before those fights were announced. i can't remember them being wrong about name fighters unless an injury occurs. mosley-judah for example. lets see if they were right about "the fight"Comment

Man, one mistake doesn't make them unreliable, they are spot on about future fights, past fights, weights and so on probably 90% of the time. I'd trust em with most info.As im sure everyone knows by now BoxRec put up (then subsequently took down) Pac Vs May on May 2nd....
Now people are ripping them for being "unreliable"....
I remember they posted up May Ortiz well ahead of the official announcement and it turned out to be ture....
I find them fairly reliable in all other facets of the sport...
is this "unreliable" tag warranted in your opinion?

I highly doubt that. Like I posted earlier in this thread, BoxRec puts up every fight that is ever rumored to be in the works. They take them down if the rumor isn't true.if it turns out mayweather-pacman actually happens then i have a hunch boxrec has an inside man that leaked the deal and then had to subsequently take it down. i also remember them being right about the ortiz fight and trout-lara before those fights were announced. i can't remember them being wrong about name fighters unless an injury occurs. mosley-judah for example. lets see if they were right about "the fight"Comment

The only real problem with their record keeping is that it is often incomplete, ESPECIALLY with records of fighters who boxed before Federal ID's came into the mix...a lot of times when you look at reords from earlier than the early 90's you will see missing fights/inaccurate records...one time I saw where they had two guys with the same name see both their records intertwined with each other...I also saw a guy who I knew for a fact was 16-0 listed at just 6-0...also, the fact is when you look at a guys record and you see their opponent had NO fights its just simply a case of they (boxrec) havent found them yet...I know for example, that the first fight I ever went to live isn't listen on the guys records and it was a 10 round fight.Comment

For future fights boxrec can be unreliable.
I saw them list Maidana vs Thurman, Mayweather vs Pacquiao (2009), and others I can't immediately recall.
They're right most of the time, but I've seen them jump the gun on quite a few fights.Comment
