    Be honest with yourselves.
If Andre had the momentum that he had after the S6 - my answer is yes. That's a high profile fight. Golovkin would be a clear underdog and a loss in a weight class above to a fighter with that reputation would have minimal damage to Golovkin's marketability at MW, where at 33 years of age he easily makes weight. And a win over Ward (or even a competitive defeat) elevates Golovkin's stature incredibly.

Breaking down Ward, he's not a big puncher (see Allen Green), so there's not much concern he's going to damage Golovkin. His reputation is based off Kessler & Froch, very good fighters, but neither fight like Golovkin and stylistically don't match well with Ward. Ward struggled with Abraham in the first three rounds of their fight, where Abraham fought as a crude version similar to Golovkin, even stunned Ward a few times before he completely gassed in the fourth (Arthur's always had stamina issues).

      You're lying to yourself.

Golovkin's marketability is based on him being an unstoppable invincible machine. If Ward makes him look ordinary, it kills his momentum and it's not like he has some great resume to fall back on. People will just say he got exposed by the first world class guy he fought. The big names at the lower weights then wouldn't go near him and they'd have a reason not to.

If I was Golovkin's manager, I wouldn't put him anywhere near Ward either. Loeffler and K2 are doing the right thing.

You've been saying yourself, it's about risk/reward. Andre under those circumstances is a high reward, the second highest possible next to a fight with Mayweather. Ward's always going to be a high risk, but knock him off under those circumstances and Gennady's 'unstoppable' persona would be at a Tyson level, where even haters would have to concede.

Golovkin is looking at fighting Hopkins at either 170 or 175, that's a high risk even now. Team Golovkin reached out to Martinez to be Sergio's opponent instead of Murray when he fought in Argentina. Both of those fights are high risk that would've hurt his momentum.

Before Golovkin signed to fight Rosado, they first sent offers to Edwin Rodriguez & Thomas Oosthuizen. Rodriguez rejected the offer, Oothuizen pushed for more money and so they opted for the cheaper Rosado who had been on US tv multiple times recently.

Ward is not a high reward fight at this stage. At least not monetarily. If you win the fight then you can reap the benefits but that's a big if. And Golovkin's people know that.

Take Golovkin as of right now (now that he has an established brand with US audiences) against Andre Ward from back then, and that's a mega fight.

Worst Case: Golovkin loses to Ward, he goes back to MW, and given his style, he recovers from any negative feedback and grows more so for showing his bravado (maybe you're familiar with Carl Froch?)

Best Case: Golovkin beats Ward, goes back to MW a legend in the making and has everyone yelling for Golovkin-Mayweather at JMW.

If Mayweather Jr was all we had to look forward to in boxing , I would already be OUT and not give boxing another THOUGHT !

                BUT

We have fighters that are out to take on ALLLLLLLLLLL COMERS !!!!!

                GGG,,,,,,PAC,,,,,,,KOVLEV,,,,,,,Donaire,,,,,,,hope fully Walters,,,,,etc......

I was a boxing fan way before Mayweather was born, and I will still be a fan of boxing after he leaves.

GGG will be tested everytime he fights, he has got to be in his prime , it won't be long he will be leaving his prime, I hope if GGG continues his winning streak of which I believe he will , he will take the lineal title at 160, look around and look straight at ANDRE WARD and HUNTER of whom is a bit annoying these days and they will cross the ring, somebody is gonna git KO'd!!!!!!!!!

I hope that fight happens withing two years not LATER than 2. I hope Andre gets it going this year SOON !! I can't imagine being tied up like he is , insane while his PRIME is going away !!!!

Losing on points to an undefeated champ a division above him wouldn't damage GGG's credibility or career. And he could quite possibly beat Ward.

Of course it would. It would remove his cloak of invincibility and it would scupper potential big fights at middleweight. If you think the likes of Cotto, Canelo, Mayweather etc are avoiding Golovkin now....imagine how easy it would be to avoid him if he takes an L.
