You guys have to realize that names like Martinez and Golovkin are only meaningful at 160, where they were/are world champions. Draining 6 pounds south would have zapped any credit Mayweather would have received for those victories.

At 160, Martinez and Golovin are simply too big for Mayweather. Similar to how Andre Ward at 168 was simply too big for Martinez/Golovkin. Cotto presents a fairer size/weight discrepancy. He also presents a lucrative option from a financial standpoint.

Anyhow, I just don't see a Cotto-Mayweather rematch happening. Cotto is too honourable and I think both he and his trainer fancy the Canelo fight.
I should like to see how "honourable" Cotto would be for a $10-15 million purse in exchange for the lineal middleweight bet.

Except Martinez was offering the fight when was fighting at 154, and since when has Mayweather ever cared about credit?

"Credit" only ever comes into the equation for Floyd's fans when looking for a reason to shoot down a fight.

I'm not sure Martinez was relevant when he was at 154. He was fighting the likes of Kermit Cintron. Martinez became popular when he had a close fight with Williams on their first go-around. Then he beat Pavlik and had that star-making performance in the second Williams fight. I personally would have liked to see Martinez-Mayweather. Golovkin-Mayweather? That is a mismatch of epic proporations, I don't know why anyone calls for that fight (well I do know, but I'm not a sadist).

It could of been Floyd who is the middlweight champion already if he had a bigger bollocks

Martinez was a natural 154 pounder who was fighting at 160. Im pretty sure if Mayweather wanted the fight back then he coulda fought Martinez at 154, or even at 155 for a "middleweight" title if May wanted. Even though he was fighting at 160 at the time, I dont think the "drain" would deteriorated Sergios skills at that point. Golovkin is more of a true middleweight.

                      Too honourable for what?

In think Cotto and Floyd see opportunity in each other at the moment. Floyd sees a shot at some fake history, Cotto genuinely believes he's a force under Roach and could make some real history.

The longer the Canelo negotiations drag on the more plausible it seems.
