Why are floyd fans looking to a cotto rematch to save the day?

At 160, Martinez and Golovin are simply too big for Mayweather. Similar to how Andre Ward at 168 was simply too big for Martinez/Golovkin. Cotto presents a fairer size/weight discrepancy. He also presents a lucrative option from a financial standpoint.Comment

I should like to see how "honourable" Cotto would be for a $10-15 million purse in exchange for the lineal middleweight bet.Comment

You guys have to realize that names like Martinez and Golovkin are only meaningful at 160, where they were/are world champions. Draining 6 pounds south would have zapped any credit Mayweather would have received for those victories.

"Credit" only ever comes into the equation for Floyd's fans when looking for a reason to shoot down a fight.Comment

I'm not sure Martinez was relevant when he was at 154. He was fighting the likes of Kermit Cintron. Martinez became popular when he had a close fight with Williams on their first go-around. Then he beat Pavlik and had that star-making performance in the second Williams fight. I personally would have liked to see Martinez-Mayweather. Golovkin-Mayweather? That is a mismatch of epic proporations, I don't know why anyone calls for that fight (well I do know, but I'm not a sadist).Comment

In think Cotto and Floyd see opportunity in each other at the moment. Floyd sees a shot at some fake history, Cotto genuinely believes he's a force under Roach and could make some real history.
The longer the Canelo negotiations drag on the more plausible it seems.Comment
