The 168 Division is not nearly as fruitful as people think. GGG's ONLY option is to stick around 160 and try to clean it up. 168 May wake up in another year, but right now it is in a deep sleep. I am surprised nobody can see how dead that division is right now, and it has been that way for a while.

Name me one fighter at 168, that he can fight, that he could sign to fight tomorrow. Just one. Don't ignore the politics. To make it simple, he has less guarantee's there.
What many in here do not see, is that the 168 division is now a dead division. Nothing is happening there. We got one guy who is either Willingly or Forced into a semi retirement, another guy (froch) with his ass already halfway out the door, and a few Haymon dudes that GGG cannot fight. That division, is now worse than 160. Just take a step back and look at it. It fizzled out. At least 160 is moving along and has signs of life, even if it is weak.
**** is not handed to a guy in boxing so Golovkin needs to do what it takes to make it, end of story he is not doing that.
So either you can see him rot or see him try a different route, up to you man.Comment

The one fight that would interest me is Canelo. It is possible to get made. There are couple fun fights that can be made, like Lemieux, possibly Lee. Politics has wrecked this sport. He has no real options at 160, but he at least has a reputation there. At 168 there is nothing for him there at all. He would have to jump to 175 right now, to get anything fruitful.Comment

Here we go with the protected and the he should fight Ward. I'd love to see him fight Ward but it's about time ppl accept reality. Legally Ward cannot sign up to fight ANYONE on any soil with a boxing governing body until his case is resolved. As far as protected...i'm still waiting on an example of him being protected. He's called out every champion in the division for over a year now (wish other champions did the same in every division) and all of them have given the deferred answer to fighting him. Just admit when you don't like a fighter and stop dancing around the truth.Comment

Lemiux's and Lees's are a dime a dozen and guys at 168 are their equals if not better. For example both Dirrells are far above both those men.
For a guy that is 33 Golovkin can't afford to be waiting around for something that might happen or might not. He needs to make things happen going to 168 is making something happen.Comment

I don't think that fight is more likely than Ward and is at least 18-24 months away. Ward cold be less than a year away at the drop of a hat.

Still I think given where he is doing the leg work to set up the Ward fight (moving to 168 for the same kind of fights he is getting at 160 really) to save time, so if he can win that fight he has time on the back end to do more with it. I don't think he is going to fight Ward in his first fight at 168 so the longer he waits around down there the longer it will take when Ward becomes an option.
Also if I am his team I want Ward ASAP preferably off his layoff if possible because that gives him his best chance. I think going to 168 sets up doing that fight real quick rather than letter Ward getting back to full power, because I don't think no matter what Golovkin is going to fight Ward out of the gate at 168 layoff or not.
If I thought he could easily get Canelo I might feel differently but I just can't see that happening in a timely fashion, which will only help the younger man.Comment

Well he can do whatever he wants it is his career and he doesn't have to move up.

If he can get Canelo staying at 160 is then worth it, but color me very skeptical of that especially in a timely fashion, and time is probably the biggest thing working against Golovkin.Comment
