Because it's not an accomplishment that his fanbase makes it out to be. They get mad cause some people spit the truth and they don't like it. So they go on their emotional rants.

Dude was INACTIVE for over a year, had surgery, and a CATCH WEIGHT. Martinez was pretty much a baby giraffe in there.

Martinez was "The Man" at 160. Cotto did his job. Cotto still has plenty of time to fight Golovkin or Quillin and now he has something to bring to the table should he choose to do so.
It wasn't a cherry pick by Cotto at all .. A majority here on NSB picked Martinez.. Nobody predicted the outcome and rather than admit they were "wrong" people would rather make excuses to cover for their lack of psychic ability as though being able to tell the future is common or something.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.. An equal mix of Cotto being "that good" and Martinez being "that bad".
