However, he failed to point out how Haymon has helped his boxers get bigger purses and avoid being jerked around by promoters and that none of his fighters have criticized Haymon or left him as they have promoters like Arum. He failed to point out that Haymon has helped Floyd Mayweather become the biggest attraction in sports and richest boxer in history.

In addition, I have never seen Lampley criticize a promoter, especially Bob Arum, the way he crticicizes Haymon and Mayweather. He knows better and is very targeted in his attacks. He hasn't said a negative word about Pacquaio fighting sparring partner caliber fighters like Rios and Algieri and he never will because he knows better.

The reason 130 fighters have signed with Haymon is because promoters are screwing them over. If the promoters treated these fighters fairly, they wouldn't have to sign with Haymon.

And last, but not least, Lampley is full of s....t because he knowing takes liberties with the truth. Case in point. His comment about Haymon carefully guiding Mayweather towards safe fights with guys like Genaro Hernandez and Oscar De La Hoya. He didn't consider De La Hoya a safe fight for Mayweather at the time Mayweather fought Oscar, and Lampley call the defeat of De La Hoya one of the greatest victories he had ever seen when Pacquaio beat him. So how can he be safe for Mayweather and a great victory for Pacquaio? Simple! The person who made the comment is full of s...t!

Also, Genaro Hernandez was a world champion with only one defeat when Mayweather defeated him. In addition Mayweather was not working with Al Haymon when he fought Hernandez. Lampley knew this, but still implied that Haymon guided Mayweather to Hernandez in a safe fight.
I think you misread the article. He said Mayweather took the right risks early on against the likes of Genaro and Oscar. That's what gives him the right to be selective. To me that implied Floyd forged his legacy early in his career and took the necessary risks but young fighters in Haymons stable are being selective with their opponents without taking any risks. Just my 2 cents but Lampley is kind of spot on with Haymons formula: low risk/ high reward. Good business model but bad entertainment value for the fans.

      • I dont blame al haymon....

He is an advisor/handler of his boxers, and he is looking out for their best interests.. Al haymon takes care of his fighters, and looks after their self interests... Unlike most boxing advisors/handlers that sometimes aren't looking out for their fighters interest, but instead for the promoters i.e. konzc for manny pac.

I blame the networks that bankroll the fights.. HBO said no more crap fights, but showtime was willing to pay for crap fights, so i blame showtime for the bad match ups

If showtime and HBO said we aren't showing adonis unless its vs kovolev, hopkins, or pascal, I'm pretty sure one of those fights would have gotten made. But showtime caved and was willing to pay for adonis vs cherry picks....

The blame has to fall to the networks..

Its like in pro sports, you can't blame the agent for getting his player a huge free agent deal, its the team that offered the deal that should be blamed..

The guys who get their clients ridiculous amounts (Scott Boras, Drew Rosenhaus) have always gotten massive amounts of hate from ownership, management, and even the fans.

Cant tell if your being sarcastic or not...

But al is only looking out for his fighters, maximizing their earnings and prolonging their careers...

Showtime is at fault for paying for his crap fights

True, that comes with the territory.. Same thing with defense lawyers.. But people gotta understand that its their JOB to make sure their clients are looked after....

Hell people blame the athletes for taking the money when it doesn't work out in the best possible way.

"Why did you accept that 5 year 120 million dollar deal knowing it would **** our team in 3 years under the best of circumstances. Then you got hurt and weren't as good as before even though you had no real way of knowing that injury it is your fault for making all this money!"

                    • I think Haymon is holding Boxing and Big Fights Hostage until he gets everything he wants. That sucks for us the fans. That being said, I do think once he has his network deals in place that he does have a PLAN and I do think it will include His Top Fighters Fighting Each Other when it is time for them to do so.

Hopefully everything is in place for Haymon Boxing in 2015 because he does have a Sick Roster and he has most of the Top Fighters IN BOXING that need to get active and also need to fight each other.

As for Lampley...not a fan AT ALL but he makes some valid points. A 3rd Network like NBC covering Boxing and showing the fighters he has on his Roster could be a GREAT for the Sport but if he just give fans **** matches then it won't work.

I think rumors of a Tournament would be something even for those that don't like Haymon would be excited about. He has most of the Top Fighters at 140 and 147 on his Roster, Why NOT do a Tournament in either if not BOTH of those Divisions!

I think Lampley, HBO, ARUM are extremely intimidated by Haymon because he is unpredictable and they don't know what he is up to and they know he can basically get any fighter he wants to come sign with him which effects them personally especially when they lose a guy like Chavez Jr
