  • Comments Thread For: HBO's Lampley Fires Off, Shoots Deep on Al Haymon

Jim Lampley, the face of HBO's broadcast team, held nothing back during his year-end edition of "The Fight Game" - Lampley's boxing news and information series, which is televised by HBO.

Lampley covered several topics of note - including the 2014 run of powerful adviser/manager Al Haymon.

Haymon was named by Lampley as the "TFG Person of The Year."

Since the start of 2014, Haymon went on a signing spree with at least 50-60 fighters joining his stable in the last twelve rounds. Haymon reportedly has between 130 to 140 fighters under contract, with Floyd Mayweather Jr. being his biggest client.

Why did he make him "Person of the year" if he's critical of him?

Haymon is no different than Arum. When they are ready to cash out their fighters or there is a huge fight then they put them with good competition.

All they do is show case their fighters. If this continues he will put boxing into a funk again

The bitch is a hypocritical sack of shit. I'd have more respect for what he has to say if he approached HBO fighters the same way, but he doesn't and it should be clear to anyone with sense that his words are financially motivated.

I'm curious to see where Haymon is going to obtain money along with TV slot time for all of his fighters without the backing of a major network like HBO or Showtime.

Of the 130-140 fighters he has, only 1 is a star (Floyd) with less than a handful of others being somewhat household names (Khan, Broner, Garcia, Thurman, Maidana, Lucas). The other 125 or so are guys nobody outside of the extreme diehards has ever heard of.

I can't front. Since Floyd Mayweather got that big fight with Oscar and made all of them millions every young up and coming fighter thinks that they can just go straight to the pot of gold without any risks. There are really next to no fights where you say "Wow this is going to be a great fight" Lucas Vs Garcia was one of the few along with Lara vs Canelo but Lara stunk it up a lil. Haymon and Arum come from very educated backgrounds and have extensive business sense and knowledge which they use to maximize profits without taking such much risks. Broner should have fought Mathysse for sure. But Lampley is a little bit of a hypocrite because Bob Arum has been doing precisely the same.

It's like how Lampley made a segment on Marquez possibly using steroids after knocking out Pacquiao but not saying anything about Pacquiao refusing random blood tests. My opinion is my own and do believe the sport of boxing does not have the fans best interest at heart. We're all $ signs to these business people. Fans are more worried about how much fighters will get paid or what they should get instead of voicing our opinions and taking it to these big wigs who control the sport.

And I am very disappointed with the direction Danny Garcia has taken with his career after such a big win over Lucas Matthysse.

                #1 What is TFG?
#2 Haymon should advise any women who want to date Lampley if Haymon's goal is keeping his contractees from getting beat down.

I'm sure Garcia would have had bigger fights in 2014 had he not looked so bad against Herrera. So the Salka fight was basically damage control. Had he blown out Herrera I think we would've seen him against Peterson. But doubt probably crept into Haymon's mind.

Damage control? Fighting Salka did MORE damage to his reputation!
