Comments Thread For: Will 2015 Be Wladimir Klitschko’s Finest Hour?

By Cliff Rold - As boxing begins to celebrate its year-end awards, in some cases prematurely, it’s not too early to wonder about what lies ahead. Until the dust settles in Japan next week, it’s not clear who has had the finest 2014 in the ring.

One guy might have the schedule in front of him to make 2015 his.

He’s the proud father of a newborn baby girl. Any proud parent can tell you, when that first bundle arrives nothing has ever been better.

    That’s real life.

For World Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KO), there is still plenty of boxing life left. As that little girl begins her journey, the 38-year old is closer to the end of his fistic journey. How much closer? It's anyone’s guess.

His finest hour may only be at hand now.

The champion’s most recent step into the ring was one of his best. Kubrat Pulev was a legitimate top contender. Klitschko, with a chip on his shoulder, whipped Pulev’s ass.

It was his 17th consecutive IBF title defense. If one recognizes his win over Ruslan Chagaev as the start of a new Heavyweight lineage, it was his tenth straight defense of history’s crown.

Few men have ever achieved numbers like that in the sport’s flagship division. Klitschko is more than just numbers. One of the biggest gate draws on the planet, and one of the biggest overall global television draws, Klitschko has put together a decade of consistency and dominance that stacks up with the greats.

    It ain’t always pretty.

The numbers in the win column are pretty enough.

For all his accolades, one thing never universally bestowed on Klitschko is recognition as its best fighter in a single calendar year. 2015 could change that. [Click Here To Read More]

why would anyone recognize wlad-chageav as creating a new lineage? wlad and vitali were the best. not wlad and chagaeav. why does wlad get special treatment?

also wlad could be fighting the very popular fury in a stadium in the uk but instead he's fighting unknown jennings in the usa. this is classic cherry picking. then afterwards he will try to make fury come to germany to fight so he can hug him nonstop and get away with it.

      Wlad shouldn't be fighting Jennings.

I guess he's inflating his number of defenses to beat the Joe Louis record.

We better see the Drago version of Klitschko in there smashing this guy to smithereens. If we see the Dr. Clinchko in there hugging and kissing Jennings for 12 rounds, the mob of haters will be epic.

Vladimir should fight three times in 2015.

          Jennings.
          Winner of Stiverne/Wilder for unification.
Late 2015 defense vs Fury for all belts.

Then a couple more defenses in 2016 against top mandatories - then retirement time and certified ATG status.

He won't be able to hug Fury as he is too big, however, I don't see him fighting Fury in 2015.

                1. Vitali was retired hence Chagaev/Wlad fought for lineage
                2. Dont worry he WILL fight fury. dont worry. I just wanna see what people excuses are when fury is knocked out

                  Lol what an idiotic comment.

Can you tell me one example ever of Joe Louis not fighting the best possible opponent he could AT ANY STAGE in his career?

He usually fought multiple number 1s every year as well as almost always fight a top 5 contender if not he fought the guy.

He fought all the previous champions he could and fought all the next champions and/or top contenders he could. Even at the worst stage of his career.

Can Wlad say the same? Obviously not.

Most people won't have excuses. Fury is simply average, Wlad will level him.
