  • Thoughts on Diego Chaves?

Finally watched Bradley vs Chaves, scored it 8-4 Bradley but it was a good, competitive fight.

We've seen Chaves on the big stage 3 times now and he's been competitive all 3 times, I thought he clearly beat Rios, the DQ was ******. There's no shame in losing to Thurman and Bradley in competitive fights, I think both are top 5 welterweights.

Contrary to popular perception, he's more of a boxer than a puncher, he likes to fight at mid range, he's got a good jab when he uses it, throws nice straight shots, counters well. He has no inside game though, he has to resort to holding at close range.

He would do very well against somebody like D.Garcia who doesn't apply pressure/cut the ring off, isn't the best boxer and throws wide shots.

I see him struggling against pure boxers and non-stop action guys like Porter and Maidana who are strong and hit during clinches.

I'd rank him just outside the top 10, he's got solid fundamentals and good skill.

      Tough fighter

      Good right hand

Won't become world belt holder at welter because it's a hot division

He has heart and he throws down.

Bradley is just levels above him as a technician and pedigreed fighter, but he did what he could to make the fight ugly.

and it speaks to his will that he didn't just lay down and go about the motions.

I'd like to see him fight Provodnikov.

Not that good, but not that bad either. Run of the mill, not that special are what cross my mind when I see him.

Fringe guy or gatekeeper at best unless he can pull the common Argentine trick of getting better with age.

Tough fighter, not great or world class, but gives a solid effort every time.. probably won't beat top guys but will be in the mix..

sorta like how ben tackie and N'dou were always hanging around but never got big wins

He's not runner up in the ATG dept but he's a solid fighter with a crowd pleasing style.

I'd pick him to beat those guys.

I think he only has 1 fight left with TR, I wonder if they'll extend his contract. If they don't I'm sure Haymon will sign him up

Good fighter, just not great. Missing a little something that would put him in the top echelon of fighters.

I'll take him vs. Provodnikov, but I'd guess they're holding out to see if Alavarado beats Rios and then they'll set him up with him.
