We've seen Chaves on the big stage 3 times now and he's been competitive all 3 times, I thought he clearly beat Rios, the DQ was ******. There's no shame in losing to Thurman and Bradley in competitive fights, I think both are top 5 welterweights.

Contrary to popular perception, he's more of a boxer than a puncher, he likes to fight at mid range, he's got a good jab when he uses it, throws nice straight shots, counters well. He has no inside game though, he has to resort to holding at close range.

He would do very well against somebody like D.Garcia who doesn't apply pressure/cut the ring off, isn't the best boxer and throws wide shots.

I see him struggling against pure boxers and non-stop action guys like Porter and Maidana who are strong and hit during clinches.

I'd rank him just outside the top 10, he's got solid fundamentals and good skill.
Great breakdown. I feel he is popularly under rated. He's not as good as his Argentine compatriots but he has better skills in some areas. His powers there too. Must be that bbq iguana.

He's a live dog against most of the guys at 147 imo. He's shown that. There's nothing really bad about him. He's pretty decent at all ranges and he's durable. I don't think he let's enough punches ago when he should but he's definitely decent.

It is fair to say he is underrated. The guy is sneaky, and alsways seems to be able to land his right hand

A hard nose fighter that would give any welterweight a real SCRAP

GGG out pointing dirrell. yes some shots maybe shouldn't of counted but if they weren't counted it wouldn't effect the result

I think he's a tough fighter, but he is 0-3 on the big boxing networks, to be honest I don't want to see him on either network.

I wouldn't mind seeing him on ESPN or Fox Sports. This guy has to earn his way back to HBO or Showtime.

Chaves is a good outside fighter, that's why Thurman didn't look great against him. Bradley's more dominant rounds were when he was fighting from the inside, like Rios did. Chaves did Ok against tough oposition. IMO he beats Algieri, Alvarado, Abregu, Lopez and many other contenders in the WW division.

Unless he's testing prospects, I've seen enough of him on my TV.

I believe he was made out to be a big punching Argentinian, however he turned out to be a decent punching one instead. He has more boxing ability than say Maidana, but less than Matthysse.

It's a shame he isn't the ****er his record suggest because if he was the WW division could really have a party ****** on the scene.
