Good post, I could see that affecting the manner in which I view a fighter.

Yeah I don't understand that. I suppose they scavenge the internet for negative articles about a specific fighter in order to reload and jump back into the trenches.

They seem to learn everything they can about the fighter in their target sight in order to unload hot, steaming piles of sh#t on these forums

Of course OP, if someone is repulsive, ignorant or even an unrepentant criminal, it naturally skewers your view of them, it's only human.

Kind of. I care about their life outside of the ring if it pertains to in the ring stuff. I've met Malignaggi multiple times and he is a really cool guy but I never liked his trash talking and lately I can't take all his anti-pacquiao rants so I've always rooted against him. Peter Quillin seems like a chill dude but the way he handles his boxing life outside the ring irritates the **** out of me, so I don't like him. Same with Mayweather, his arrests and stuff have no impact on how I feel about him, but I don't like his "TBE/greatest thing to ever walk the planet" attitude toward boxing so in turn I don't like him. Rigo on the other hand is a guy that most of my view of him is his personality. Although he isn't my favorite to watch I've always liked his attitude about fighting the best guys.

It depends - overall I'm looking for insights into how they think, not what they think. I do like to understand the fighter beyond the ring - but I couldn't really tell you what I'm looking for when I'm reading, watching or listening up on them.

I don't hold criminal history against them unless it's some heinous act. Boxing is always going to attract people from the margins

I don't care about political or social views. I might disagree and argue against their position, but I'm not upset if they express them. (Hate language excluded)Boxing is out in front on a lot of social issues so as fans we get exposed to a lot of touchy issues and go at each other throats in a much more open way than others do. Clash of cultures a lot of time

                Ty.

Another thing that can cost an athlete/entertainer a portion of my disposable income is when they use the fame they earned in the ring/onstage to push their generally warped world view.

Even then, I try not to pay that much attention unless they become like a broken record about it.

i respect your opinion but can i ask you a serious question?

why does it bother you that a person who has dedicated his life to this sport calls himself great or the best ever? like is he supposed to say hes the second best? im sure we all have our opinions of who we think the best are but a guy having confidence in himself is a good thing especially when its his livelyhood and how he feeds his family. Not to mention the sport is brutal on the body and soul and hes done it at a high level for years. ive never understood why someone having high confidence in himself in a combat sport is an issue i would really like to understand why this bothers people.

I suppose it's because of the image the media has distilled on the public. Good guys are supposed to be humble and bad guys are boastful, etc.. Perhaps that could be a key component behind the distaste of fans towards the "TBE" monicker.

It's just not my style. I'll never forget Andre Ward said "I was brought up never to call myself great, we let other people do that." That's the way I've always looked at things and that's the personality type that gets my respect. I'm not like some people who want him to die for things like this but it's not the type of person that I actively root for. Where a person like Ward I want to get to the point where people call him great, a person like Mayweather I want to see knocked back a notch. Just my opinion
