That had to be the most one sided commentary ever as well... Benavidez was outboxing him and that one commentator would just keep talking about how bad it was for Benavidez to go to the ropes, meanwhile Benavidez is landing hard shots on him. Then they go to the ropes and Herrera is hitting his elbows and landing 2 or 3 body shots total that have no effect while Benavidez rocks him back a couple times, give and take, and that commentator is lambasting him some more. Then he boxes out of it and continues his good boxing for most of the rest of the round while the commentator keeps on saying how bad Benavidez is doing for going to the ropes. Seriously the whole time that's all that commentator was talking about no matter how good Benavidez did all the commentator talked was bad about him. That dude needs to get fired Herrera didn't hurt him at all and barely hit him on the ropes. I don't know what kind of personal vendetta he had against him, but he needs to leave the scoring to the judges and quit trying to sway the viewers. He kept talking about those so called 3 or 4 close rounds that could have gone either way that the judges might give to Benavidez. Idiot if you shut your mouth and watched he deserved all of those rounds.Comment

Just stop. I suppose all the ringside media, all the BOXING fans, and HBO commentators had it for Herrera because they had a "personal vendetta" against Benavidez. Come on, man. The kid did well, and perhaps with more experience he could've pulled out the victory, but in no universe did he win that fight tonight. I think I could've seen one of the judges score that fight a TKO victory for Benavidez, but never a decision, much less a near shut-out unanimous decision in his favor.Comment

You're either Benavidez, his trainer, or one of those three awful judges.

wasn't impressed by either fighter... though I thought Herrera clearly won.
Just not a style that's overly entertaining or pleasing to the casual eye...so I guess the judges saw that similarly and rewarded the other guy.
However, that doesn't excuse this robbery. ....decision to the young promising guy.. .. errrrComment

please explain how herrera blew out benavidez.id love to hear it because no one has said how he did.everyone just keeps saying he won he won ..robbery robbery.was it all the knockdowns ? oh wait there was none.or all the times he had jose in trouble..wait that never happened.how about the outlanding ? that didnt happen either.all i can give herrera is his activity he did throw more...yeah at his arms and elbows.he had some nice body shots but just landing a lot of good body shots doesnt win you a proffesional fight if there isnt a ko
Herrera won an easy 8-4 fight. He did NOT lose a 4-8 (x2), or 3-9 fight at all. No way in hell. Lol I love that you mention having fighter's in trouble as a criteria for winning a fight. Is that how Mayweather wins all his fights? Calzaghe? Hopkins? Herrera has what, 8 KOs in his career? If you go in there expecting Herrera to have KO power, you're honestly not in the know.
As far as out-landing Benavidez goes, did you even watch the fight? Herrera out-landed, out-threw, out-jabbed, and out-power punched Benavidez, and that's a fact.
Now tell me, what won Benavidez the fight? Was it him knocking down Herrera? Nope.
Well, maybe it was all the times he buckled Herrera and was close to KO'ing him? Nope.
Oh, I know, it was probably the fact that he outthrew, outlanded, and got his less! Nope.
Well ****, then what the hell did Benavidez do to win? He wasn't even the champ going in, what the hell did he do? I'll tell you what he did, he laid on the damn ropes for damn near 2/3 of the fight, standing there in his peek-a-boo defense.Comment

Perfect you pulled it up for us, as you can see Benavidez landed many more punches to the head of Herrera than Herrera did t Benavidez, and you could actually tell they hurt him, the majority of the punches thrown by Herrera was when bemavidez decided to lay on the ropes and let him do that because he is such a weak puncher. Not one of those body shots had any effect whatsoever, meanwhile Benavidez was hurting him with straight rights, left hooks, and uppercuts to the head all night. Herrera scored most of those body shots during the minute or so a round that Benavidez laid on the ropes. What about the other 2 minutes in the middle? Bemavidez outboxed him. I really wanted Herrera to win because I felt like he got robbed vs. Garcia, but he was clearly oitboxed tonight imo, not saying Benavidez manhandled him or anything, just saying I think he won 8 rounds to 4Comment

Listen, I get that you're a fan of KO's. However, let's face it, not everyone is a KO puncher or has KO power. Luckily, boxing matches are won either by KO OR DECISION.

funny you put up those pics of compubox that prove you wrong lol.do you know how to read em ? look at the percentages brother.if you notice in the last picture they dont punches that landed on the arms and elbows which herrera landed on a whole lot.i agree benavidez stayed on the ropes for too long too much for my liking but if ur still landing goof counters off of punches landing while ur blocking them that wins rounds for me
benavidez had herrera backing up a few times and landed the sharper more effective punches to the body AND head.not to say herrera wasnt doing his thing but the outrage is a bit much.im a fan of herrera btw so dont think im bias.
i had it like robert garcia with jose winning.but hey im off to bed im done debating its 3 am here in jersey lolComment

What I will tell you though is this: Benavidez was an amateur standout. There is absolutely no doubt he's a skilled dude, I'm not debating that. But, I'll let you think about something for a second.
A 12-year younger, taller, rangier, amateur standout got out-jabbed and out-worked by Mauricio Herrera, a guy that until recently was a plumber. Before the fight, Benavidez was commenting that Herrera wasn't a "master boxer" because he reasoned that boxing is about hitting, and not getting hit. He was correct in saying that, it is about hitting and not getting hit. Knowing that, do you think that he would stay along the ropes and lose a boxing match in the process on purpose? A highly-touted amateur purposely stayed along the ropes. Come on, even Benavidez's hardcore fans know that's not why he was on the ropes.Comment
