I'll be more impressed when he fights someone who rivals him in talent. He didn't have to be wary of Herrera's power or speed, but still wasn't letting it all hang out. This is his first notable opponent on HBO and he didn't seem eager to impress the audience. He didn't make a good first impression.
He stunk. They are setting him up for a pay day.

With that big chin stuck way out there you can bet he gets caught and stone cold KOd soon. He's an accident waiting to happen. If Herrera had more pop he could've ended it by round 3. That chin has a 'HIT ME PLEASE' blinking neon sign on it.

fight if there isnt a ko
In all honesty Benavidez's total punches for the night was about 95% jabs and VERY little combinations. You have to admit man Benavidez didn't do that well he had no game plan out there he was hoping to catch Herrera the whole fight and simply jabbed most of the fight. If Benavidez would have thrown more combinations he could have easily KOd Herrera BUT he would throw 3 jabs and maybe a right and then run to the ropes. I dnt see how he won most of the time he was running from Herrera while Herrera was the agressor for the whole fight. I just think Benavidez should have showed us more. Not just Jab Jab run to the ropes.l, Jab jab run to the ropes. Watch the Benavidez vs Miranda Fight benavidez threw nothing but jabs the whole fight and then he got caught in the last round because of his awkard defense. He is nothing special.

No problem with Benavidez winning at all, I personally had it 7-5 for the kid. I had more of a problem with HBO commentary which seemed to be setting the stage by calling a one sided fight. There's a difference between effective aggression and the ineffective aggression which Herrerra displayed. Smothering and pitted patter punches on the inside aren't as effective as a lot of people tend to give. The cleaner punches came from Benavidez. That being said, Jose's chin is there for the taking as everyone could see, also, he is way too square in his stance. He's a highlight KO reel waiting to happen.

If you count pitty-pat arm punches that are just there to occupy time then Herrera won lol
