Comments Thread For: De La Hoya on 5/2: I Could Care Less What Floyd Wants!

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is completely focused on securing the Cinco De Mayo date of May 2nd for his star fighter, Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-1-1, 31KOs).

Canelo has given De La Hoya his marching orders to secure the lucrative May date.

Mayweather traditionally fights on Cinco De Mayo weekend. In several interviews he voiced his intention to fight in May of next year.

Sounds like Floyd won't be using GBP now that his banner has got it's promoter's license. What other name opponent would Canelo fight if no Cotto? I don't see anybody else he could fight that would challenge a Mayweather PPV.

Delahoya has backed himself into a corner, cause if cotto decides to fight in NY for the puerto rican day festivities, Where does that leave canelo? Who would he fight on cinco de mayo weekend that would draw customers over a floyd ppv. If cotto fights floyd in NY for the puerto rican day festivities at the Barclays for the Middleweight title who cares about cinco de mayo? Cotto would make more money, have a home field advantage, and a chance to beat the #1 guy in the sport, and they can laugh at all that energy Oscar put forth to get a ppv date that wont sell much compared to Floyd vs Cotto in NY for the middleweight title the money/match not the date matters

The only one that can *** this up now is Cotto. I'm a huge fan but he turns into a full blown diva at the negotiation table! Canelo has already stated that he agreed to all of Cotto's terms. Lets see what happens!

This is very true. Old Oscar putting all his apples in the same basket again.

Oscar if Floyd is none of your business then why do you keep discussing who he will fight like he is your business?

No one, even if Mayweather Vs Khan does end up happening, no other fight for Saul will compete with people having another chance to see if the Mayweather streak will end.

The closest fight in terms of excitement would be if it was Canelo vs GGG, and that would be Canelos last boxing match for a while, nevermind PPV.
