    Reliving....Trinidad vs Vargas!!

14 years ago Today the stage was set for the two best Jr.Middleweights of the world in the year 2000 met in what turned out to be one of the best fight of All-Time imo...you had 2 Undefeated champions putting their titles and records on the line, something we rarely get now days!

As a huge Vargas fan, this fight was truly special for me watching it live at 16 at my dads friends house.... From the sound of the bell to begin round 1 there was tension and anticipation building in the room, and just like that BOOM!! a massive left hook puts vargas down for the first time in his career...he gets up quick then BOOM, he goes down again, now the Vargas fans including myself are crapping bricks at this point and are in utter disbelieve that this is actually happening!!

Vargas survives round 1, and gets his legs back to start round 2. Vargas seems to be adjusting to tito when a jab rocks him again, then i seen something that i was vrry impressef with and that was the defensive skill Vargas was very underated for as he made tito miss 14 straight shots in 1 continued sequence!! Absoutely amazing!

Round 3 starts as more of the same happens here only Vargas iz begining to turn the tide here as tito gets jabbed/grazzed howehever you want to perceive it, now tito is in trouble !! And the unthinkable happens, Tito low blows Vargas....boxing resumes as vargas has his best round so far!

Round 4 begins as both land sum jabs andBOOM!!, just like that tito is on the mat from a beughtiful left hook from vargas... then the drama begins and what materialized was the best fight of 2000 IMO, and one of the best jr.middleweight fights of all time...

Share your guys' memories and thoughts on one of the best fights ever!!

As you can tell I'm a big Vargas fan with the name and all....it's funny because I used to post on ESPN and everybody thought I was Mexican.....nope Canadian from the East Coast, but man that fight made me love boxing and I thought Vargas showed all the heart in the world and he had my respect for that....turns out he's a bit of a knob, but hey I'm still grateful for that fight.

My girlfriend swore she wouldn't like boxing until I showed her this fight and a few others and she's turning into a bit of a fight fan

You don't see many fights like that being put on now, Fernando's resume for his first career is amazing and his fights were fun to watch regardless of outcome. Imagine that, you can like a fighter and not care one lick if he wins or not....weird.

not a vargas fan, never was, good fun fighter with power but little skill when compared to the best and lost at pretty much every step up BUT he put on a show here and made Tito tough it out. Still, low blows or not, Tito woulda won anyway.

This is very debateable imo, but i do know vargas' chances would have been alot better if not for the low blows.

lets not make excuses, those low blows werent goin to kill the guy and tito was already showing his superior speed and skills. the fight may have been slightly closer...or not, tito did lose 2 points didnt he?

Yeah, I think it's a bit more up in the air without the low blows and questionable wrapping of Tito's hands.....but I don't really care, it was a great fight anyway.

People dismiss Fernando as losing to top guys, but to me he had a great run for a young fighter and IMO this fight kind of ruined him...he just looked shot after.

Yeah he was deducted 2 points, but lets not act like that cup protected him fully from the low blow, especially a low blow from a big puncher like trinidad.. its very concievable to think vargas would have done better in the fight if not for the low blows.

Absolutely.! There is a video on youtube where vargas was refering to the wrapping situation for which ****m richardson felt was an illegal wrap... he also had stated that titos punches felt to him like he was getting hit by "STONES"!...

I don't think Vargas was the only one who made that observation
