I spoke with Bob Arum before my fight and we had a serious talk and he explained to me that there was a very high possibility that if I beat Antonio DeMarco, I could get the opportunity," stated undefeated WBA jr. welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, who seems confident that he'll be next in line to face WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. In fact, according to Vargas, his new trainer, future Hall of Fame Roy Jones Jr., is already working on the game plan to exploit the perceived weaknesses of the 8-division world champion.

"Roy Jones Jr. is already looking up a game plan on how to beat Manny Pacquiao and seeing the weaknesses that Manny Pacquiao has. And he's already explained to me a few of his weaknesses, so we will be ready," Vargas explained during a recent conversation with FightHype's Percy Crawford. "We will have enough time to prepare for him and we will have enough time to perfect our technique and to work on capitalizing on Manny's mistakes. I'm young, man. You gotta understand, I'm young, I'm hungry and I want it. I want it, you know what I'm saying, and Manny Pacquiao doesn't want it as much as I do.

His quote in this article suggests he's well aware the masses don't know who Vargas is. Granted, they didn't know Algieri either but that was Macao and the US PPV numbers are not said to have done well.

I think both Pacquiao and Mayweather fans know that Arum is partly responsible for the fight not happening.

I understand there are various hurdles when it comes to the Mayweather vs Pac fight getting made.....but as a boxing fan I'd settle for Pac versus Khan, Matthysse, Maidana, Cotto 2, Canelo even ****ing Victor Ortiz!

Anyone except boring a** Jesse Vargas, I respect him as a fighter but he's not on the world class level.

I wouldn't watch it, but you can't really blame arum, if Macau wants to pay for it, no reason not take it if your Arum.

If Floyd could make his $ fighting Vargas he would do it in 2 seconds.

from a business perspective, sure, i can't blame him. but he has been systematically avoiding the fight everyone is dying to see with the same tactic since day 1, and as a fan, that should anger you. i don't get why this **** gets such passive treatment.

said this before but it bears repeating-this is exactly like 2010 when Bob claimed he was feverishly working on making the Floyd v manny fight when he had already made a deal for pac v margs way back in February of that year.

Maybe its different this time given the years have past and both fighters, especially manny, are not selling much at all.

Vargas is next.....boxing fans need to accept it for what it is.....pacquiao isn't into facing any threats. That's why he walked away from Floyd three different Negos...supposedly there are Negos going on now so we will see if pacquiao accepts the offer now.
