Better win: Canelo over Lara or Kovalev over Hopkins?

Even without the Alvarez-Lara decision being close/controversial, Hopkins had been more active than Lara leading up to the fight and had a couple of titles vs Lara's one interim. But yeah, Alvarez-Lara was nip-tuck where Kovalev dominated a guy who had never been dominated before.Comment

Hopkins at 49 definitely isn't better than a prime Lara.
Lara was considered the best legit Jr MW in the world.Comment

Ask yourself how many people genuinely felt Hopkins would win over Kovalev. I said from the start he had no chance. Hopkins hasn't fought anyone near the level of Kovalev for years and years and lost to Dawson who's not even 1/10th the fighter Kovalev is
On the other hand you have Lara who many said was the boogeyman and Canelo would never fight him, he'd get outboxed and Mayweather should fight Lara etc. It was a 50/50 fight.
Name wise, Hopkins of course craps all over Lara. But quality of win I'd go Lara over Hopkins any day.

"insiders"/journalists tallied a 15-12 ratio for Kovalev (~55%) and betting odds were not much different (unless you tried to bet Hopkins by KO).Last edited by ////; 11-25-2014, 08:56 AM.Comment

I am a huge Canelo fan but I don't see how the two fights even compare. Canelo won a close fight that was not exciting because Lara fought a safety first hit and run like hell fight. Kovalev took apart a very high ranked light heavyweight and a legend so Kovalev had the better win.Comment

the comprehensive nature of kovalev's victory gives it the edge. he whitewashed hopkins and shows dimensions to his game that many didn't know he had. plus in the future hopkins' name will surely carry more weight to historians than nearly-man lara'sComment
