I know, it does seem that now that the fight seems close, some fans of both sides don't want it.

They are talking about Pacquiao and Mayweather fighting other opponents.
And wishing that Mayweather or Arum comes up with excuses to put the fight off.

In a telephone conversation with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports hours before he was scheduled to return to the United States from Macau, Arum said he “hopes to make the Mayweather fight” and is ready “to give him ( Mayweather) a little time” to respond .

So basically a 63/37 split of the fighter's take between Mayweather/Pacquiao.

Still, and this is the real question to ask, how much is Mayweather going to bring in off of the promoter's take?

The fight that Arum, within the past week, was talking about bringing in ONE BILLION DOLLARS ... only has $160m going to the fighters. Counting backwards from the assumed payouts, Arum seems to be looking at $400m-$450m in revenue for the fight (Mayweather-$100m, Pacquiao-$60m, promoters-$40m to $50m).

Still, who gets the upside on the fight? Top Rank isn't going to be the lead promoter for the fight, regardless of how hard Arum pushes the CBS President to dictate such terms.

CBS/Showtime made a major bet on Floyd Mayweather Jr and that bet seens to be paying off; Floyd has a key seat at the table and even Leslie Monves(sp?) should be able to respect that.

Arum may hope that his commonality of also being an old white guy can change that, but I doubt it

Yeah that might be the case, but seeing as you're not privy to their business plan you cannot assess whether the no. falls into their projected plans. Ultimately people make moves with the intention of making a profit; however, in order to do, sacrifices are sometimes made.

Simplifying things for you. Someone buys 100 at £50 each, he is going to have a short term loss of £5,000. If he is able to sell 10 a month at $100, he will make a profit of £5,000 down the stretch.

At the moment, Showtime is probably more concerned with improving their brand recognition. If they can build a consistent brand that will last over 10 years, I'm guessing they'd their moves a success.
Stocks don't really have a shelf-life (MS, GE) not within 10 years anyway. Floyd does, only has 2 fights left so you can't afford to sit and wait on it any longer.

However, I always found it strange that they would invest so much in a fighter so near the end of his career, especially given the boring defensive style he has displayed lately. It's also interesting that HBO apparently did not wish to engage in a giant bid war for Mayweather, which I think was smart. One invests big money in the talented new blood, not the fading old blood.
I think it was more about establishing Showtime as the premiere boxing PPV handle (at least that was the plan). Last year they had everything going for them. Great fights, had Canelo, Floyd and Haymon fighters. This year the fights have been awful or at least nothing compared to the fights last year. Also Canelo screwed Showtime over by taking HBO's deal (glad he did though), and from what we've seen it looks like Haymon fighters will be fighting on NBC in the near future. Showtime is in deep trouble, however their boxing budget is chump change for CBS which is quite different for HBO who don't have the same kind of money backing them

So two black guys are supposed to fight in Mexico is now your defense to that argument? You seriously had to go out of the country... Think about a temporary stadium, in Las Vegas no less. You have casino bathrooms that look better than my living and you want a temporary stadium with port-o-potty's instead. My man, the 80's was 30 years ago times have changed stadiums are not the same anymore, you need luxury suites, restaurants and all kinds of entertainment to allure the whales. The biggest fight in history being held in a circus tent... seriously you are okay with that?

Stakes are so high. if the fight happens and Floyd loses, it complete invalidates 6 years of Floyd fan's arguments.

It also destroys Floyd's reputation and damages his legacy.

Honestly, Floyd has a lot more to lose than Manny.

Theres gonna be a lot of butthurt on both sides, but the most painful butthurt will come from Mayweather and his fans should Floyd lose.

Damn, I cant imagine Mayweather fans ever posting on the internet if Floyd loses, its THAT BAD.

What u really was trying to say is that why is arum talking to les moonves when floyd makes more than him but u added "possibly" for instance like this where u can fall back on and say I didn't say floyd is worth more I said possibly.
The point that I making is that they are very comparable in net worth. He said that he was a Billionaire and I was refuting that and saying that Floyd is worth as much or more...THAT'S IT! There was nothing else implied. You are reading WAYYYYY to much into it. If I wanted to say that, then I would say exactly that! How is it u know that I was trying to say that and I don't?

They'd just be asking Broner to fight Manny and avenge his big brother.
