Comments Thread For: Roach Discusses Mayweather-Cotto Rematch Rumors

Rumors have been swirling in the industry that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) is attempting to secure a rematch with Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) for May 2nd. The two boxers fought an exciting twelve round contest in 2012, with Mayweather winning a twelve round unanimous decision.

Cotto has recovered from that loss in full force, after demolishing Sergio Martinez in June to capture the WBC middleweight title.

    Cotto

Cotto is the biggest joke as a champion, specifically MW that I have ever seen. Pac would still kick his ass. All day every day. Over and over and over. Pound the piss out of him.

I was thinking about this the other day... and as hyped as I was / am for Cotto-Canelo, the Mayweather fight is much more appealing and exciting for me personally. Canelo has NOTHING to offer Cotto, not a title or an undefeated record! I MEAN NOTHING.

Beating Mayweather would be huge and putting all the effort and energy of a Canelo fight into a Mayweather rematch would be better. The Canelo fight will take a lot out of both IMHO.

I love the position Cotto is in. Not bound to any promoter or network he can go out there and make the biggest fights possible for himself

Floyd already clearly beat Cotto while trying to make an entertaining fight out of it. He'd beat him even easier in a rematch just like he did Maidana. In fact, the only reason Floyd wants this rematch is to keep the May date away from Canelo and get back over a million ppv buys.

Interesting thing is Cotto is the one in the driver's seat this time. He shouldn't accept anything less than at least a 60/40 split as well as the gloves and weight of his choice. Cotto has all the leverage in these negotiations with either Floyd or Canelo.

You look at where cotto is now, where ODH is and where Floyd is and it just begs the question why didn't Manny leave TR when he had the chance?

Then ODH committee the classic error by naming him as the desired opponent before negotiations commenced-thus raising his value.

I still think Cotto ends up fighting Canelo- he is going to get paid either way, Its good to see a fighter position himself to be rewarded after going through everything he has in his career.

Mayweather/Cotto 2 is still an entertaining fight, but let's be honest, it's an obvious Pacquiao duck.
