The earliest we'd get this is 2016. Ward has to come back first, then test the waters at 175, then maybe fight Kovalev.

Kovalev's boxing is good enough to beat Ward straight up; his power punching is enough to stop Ward but not vice versa, and Sergey is strong enough to manhandle Ward if it comes to that. All this trumps Ward's dirty boxing. Plus, Ward simply will not fight Kovalev at light-heavyweight; remember, Ward even made Dawson fight at a weight draining 168.

After the Long layoff Ward may have trouble to make 168 anyway. Its time for him to move up.

the froch and kessler fans say ward sucks

irony, thy name is forgetting the beating the prince dished out.

you've also got the guys who have never scored a decent boxing match in their lives, who seem to think the ward - froch fight was close because of limey commentary.

          limeys aren't biased, or anything.

            Careful what you wish for...

Yes Kovalev looked brilliant beating Hopkins' ass and was a gracious victor. But I don't think it's enough.

However, Ward must take the Krusher seriously. He must give this fight the respect it deserves.

Let Ward get his contractual house in order and fight a tune up.

After that? I still say he whips Kovalev at any weight.

Kovalev-Ward should be the sport's new superfight, for hardcore fans at least.

If Ward gets a couple of wins under his belt this match-up will have huge momentum behind it.

Once a Kovalev jab lands, Ward will run for his life just like the rest of them.

I keep hearing of speculative fights with Ward about how he could fight this guy, or he's calling out that guy, but no official announcement has been made. His trainer says he'll be back soon, but he doesn't know when. No one is saying how close he is to settling his litigation with Goossen Promotions. At this point, why are we even discussing this guy? Get back to me when you have some real news about Andre Ward.

Its safe to say this is the 3rd biggest fight in boxing right now, after floyd/pacquaio and cotto/canelo...

Just to be clear, I say that you are wrong. If Ward fights Sergey at light-heavyweight, Sergey will administer the beating of a lifetime to Ward. All that will be left are the excuses: Andre lost because he hadn't fought in a long time: Andre lost because of all of the stress the legal battles: Andre lost because he's not really a light-heavyweight: Andre lost because Kovalev is really a cruiserweight: Andre lost because the fight wasn't in Oakland: Andre lost because those Russians like Kovalev have access to drugs nobody else does: Andre lost because Kovalev grew up in a really tough environment and it's not fair that an American born and bred has to fight an opponent who came from a nation that spent the twentieth century engaged in total war: Andre lost because, because, because. What they won't say is that Andre lost because he never had what it would take to defeat Kovalev. Mark my words; If the fight takes place, Andre loses and his fans as well as the media make excuse after excuse after excuse for him. One other thing as well; does anybody believe that any fighter would cultivate Ward's style if he had the talent, skill, ability, technique, creativity, or athleticism to fight like Kovalev or GGG (or any other dynamic fighter for that matter)?
