Haymon might have the financial backing now to win a purse bid against Roc Nation. It would be interesting to see whether he would bother.

Nothing to do with Haymon at all. The WBC made a lot of decisions like that at their last conference in Vegas in Dec 2014. They have been in discussions with the other sanctioning bodies in the goal of reducing the number of title holders and with the intention of having unification fights. The only fighter who was declared to be outside all of these regulations was Floyd Mayweather as he will be retiring soon and in deference to all the attention he brings to the sport. All other champions will be subject to random drug testing and mandatory defenses. These changes were brought in at the insistence of the new president of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman.

It is very easy to keep up on news from the WBC, just subscribe to their newsletter and visit their website now and then. I find it amazing how many people like to sit back and attack and criticize the various sanctioning bodies but never take the time to really find out what is going on directly from their sites. Instead they choose to believe the rumours and speculation started by people who post on message boards who are basically repeating something another poster somewhere wrote that has no basis in fact.

All sanctioning bodies have the same exception in their charters as does any sport without a players' or athletes' union. They can all change the rules on the fly if they wish. As can just about any company that offers anything to the public for free or for pay. I guess you never read end user agreements for the software you install on your computer or smart phone or the websites you visit. Or your cellular contract or cable TV contract or just about anything else you might think of. Most of the contracts include a line that says something like "Terms and conditions may change at the discretion of 'XYZ' without notice."
It's common practice.

I'm well aware of limitation clauses, however these chumps don't even have gumption to leave it as one line. The word "discretion" appears 101 times in their shitty rules and "sole discretion" 62 times. They don't even pretend to be obligated to do anything, and they sure as hell don't practice it, they just politically manoeuvre to their own financial benefit. Boxing fans are used to all of the negligent crap they pull, the list is long, there's no consistency and no accountability. Surprised to see a fan defend them, it's a rare thing for a reason.

The only sanctioning body doing anything for the fans right now is the IBF in enforcing mandatories some of the time, and they're far from perfect themselves.

Neither Korobov nor Quillin has anything to do with Roc Nation. Quillin is with Haymon, and I don't know who Korobov's promoter is. Roc Nation won the purse bid but does not represent either fighter.

A Kovalev - Stevenson fight would likely go to purse bid as I cannot imagine Haymon allowing the fight to happen on HBO. If Roc Nation were to make and win the bid, I would not be surprised to see Stevenson vacate the title the way Quillin did last year.

As for the sanctioning bodies, I really do not care what is in their constitutions. It's not like there is anything I can do about it. I just want to see champions defending their titles and when you have a champion like Kovalev or Golovkin, you have nothing to worry about there.

Kovalev is the best Light Heavyweight. He's more skilled than given credit and his power is legit. The way he made Hopkins his scared little bitch was amazing!
