a-side is not real and cant be use to gain leverage while negotiating, unless we're talking about floyd.
Kovalev v Ward Who is the A-side now?

Every fighter can be hit! It's not always about not getting hit! Sometimes if your willing to take one you can land one better yourself. If you just go in there not to get hit then you don't win just like B-Hop tried!I would have to say Ward, hands down Ward won the super six THis was Kovalev's first test and the more decorated vet in the twilight of his career took him the distance...Dawson was stopped by Ward....this is the first time KOvalev has gone beyond 8 rounds. Kovalev can be hit lets not get beside ourselves hopefully he gets another big name soon to see if he's legit.Comment

!00% agreed!! He needs to get the boot. Everyone's sitting around feeling sorry for Ward yet Ward did this to himself because he wanted more money. If money is the cause for him being in this situation than it's just Karma at it's best! He earned what he did cause he was a real human all those years and he was rewarded by God. Now he only wants cash and God doesn't care about money so there you go. Plain and simple!Comment

I was wondering If he has started hanging around with Floyd, maybe this would explain this rather greedy stance by him.!00% agreed!! He needs to get the boot. He wants to have one's cake and eat it too this is the only reason we never seen Froch Vs. Ward 2 don't get me wrong I don't like either guy but Froch is atleast right in this circumstance he is the A side draw not Ward, Ward might hold the title the ranking but it doesn't mean **** if you have little to any fans.Comment

This is well put and puts the situation into perspective. This thread isnt about dissing Ward, he's a damn good, if dirty fighter. But its about challenging this notion that he should stay where he is(where there are little or no current challenges or opponents he hasnt already beaten well) because he's 'the big star'. Through his inactivity he has lost all of the momentum he had after winning the super six.Kovalev has done a lot more in the past few years than Ward, who has had one fight in two years, against Rodriguez.
The Super Six was several years ago now.
Sergey has a much more fan-friendly style than Ward, he doesn't need to hold his opponents' arms constantly and wrestle.
Ward's wins in 2013 and 2014:
UD Rodriguez
Kovalev's wins in 2013 and 2014:
KO 3 Campillo
KO 3 White
TKO 4 Cleverly
KO 2 Sillakh
KO 7 Agnew
TKO 2 Caparello
UD Hopkins
Obviously Kovalev has done a lot more LATELY, with wins over 3 world champions in the past two years.
Without question he should move up. I dont see how anyone could make a case for him staying put at 168, not to mention the fact he doesnt even fight or have a bout lined up.Comment

Not according to the same idiots that always use this as an excuse for floyd to not fight anyone. The same idiots have been trying for the longest time to apply this screwy logic to Ward so he doesnt have to face anyone remotely threatening or fight anyone on a level playing field.Comment

The A-side in a fight has nothing to do with resume or accomplishments. Its about popularity and Ward's popularity right now has never been lower. The tv ratings for Kovalev's fight will come out today and it will probably confirm that Kovalev would be the A-side in such a fight.
However, Kovalev took much less money than his value to face Hopkins and maybe he would allow Ward to have more money just to make the fight happen. Thats what avoided fighters have to do sometimes.Comment
