Hopkins really dropped the ball on this one

The best tactician in the game for over two decades now completely forgot about his lead hand out of fear to get countered. He really shot himself in the foot. I don't think he threw more than 15 jabs the whole fight. Not saying he was going to win, Kovalev is just too big, too fast, too strong and too smart for Hopkins at this stage, but did Hopkins shoot himself in the foot or what? How do you fight a pressure fighter for 12 rounds and you jab him less than 15 times, this is unbelievable especially when it comes to Hopkins and he is the smartest.

    No he didn't.

Hopkins never had a chance in this fight. This fight was over the day it was signed. He never had a chance and it was pretty obvious that once he.... just like any other fighter who has stepped and will step into the ring with kovalev feels his power- they throw winning out the window and merely try to survive.

Hopkins had no chance. Its OKAY.

Dude I picked Kovalev to steamroll him even before it was signed. That's not the point though. The point is that Bhop didn't throw his jab at ALL and he's got a good one. Like I said not saying he was going to win doing that but at least he could've slept better after the loss knowing that he's done everything he could've done.

Go and look at Hopkins' last performances, he can only counter off the ropes pretty much, he's slow at initiating. When one can only have success against a certain style due to age, it's best to retire. Always said Kovalev is better than people give him credit for, which also showed.

                He was in survival mode.

Once you feel Kovalevs power you go into survival mode.

you try to step in the ring with him and eat his power combined with his boxing ability and flawless timing..... It's simply not worth it. Especially when you're 50.

I mean, people who knew about Kovalev before tonight knew he was a complete boxer with power in both hands, his hype was always warranted. The problem is Hopkins age showed and he doesn't have the stamina or power he used to, but Kovalev is the real deal, and he also was outboxing Hopkins in moer ways than one, and that's no easy task, to outsmart a master defensive wizard like Hopkins.
