What Sergio said is true but middleweight is not super rich in talent so it is not exactly like Golovkin is fully at fault at that. The talent is better at 168 but that is a personal choice he can go up for that glory or he can stick around beating up no hopers. He has probably about maxed his star beating up no hopers though and it will start to tarnish soon unless he gets superior fights.

Sucks for him that his best class lacks talent, not his fault but that is the hand he was dealt and needs to work that out. Keep in mind he is 32 so waiting around for big fights rather than chasing them is costly even if he stays busy otherwise.

I think you could have a point at this stage of the game. The interest in and importance of this fight happening has dissipated significantly since it was originally discussed. At this point, they might as well have Mayweather and Pacquiao fight the Klitschko for all the difference it would make. That's as long as Vlad wears the gloves with more padding around the knuckles of course.

I agree that it would seem like Golovkin is at the point where he needs some top level match-ups with opponents who have actual upset potential. I think he has done a great job with what is available to him at this point in his career but unless Cotto, Canelo or Quillin (very unlikely) are willing to give him a shot, his options will surely become very limited if he wants to continue to build his reputation. Unfortunately, due to the merciless politics of boxing, there are some things that are out of his control. I often forget that he's 32 with that adorable baby face!
What's the worst thing about fighting Golovkin? Feeling like you just got your ass kicked by a schoolboy.
