Comments Thread For: Mora: Golovkin’s a Monster, But He’s Been Matched Wisely

Sergio Mora thinks highly of Gennady Golovkin, but he also thinks the power-punching 160-pound titleholder has been matched wisely so as to keep his flaws from being exploited.

“I look at Golovkin, I think he’s a monster, obviously. I think he has heavy feet. He has some flaws just like every other fighter. Fighters haven’t been able to capitalize on that, and he’s had the best matchmaking I’ve seen in the last 10 years, aside from [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr.,” Mora told BoxingScene.com in late October. “But Chavez Jr., everyone was clowning him on his opposition. No one’s clowning Golovkin on his opposition.

I like Triple G, but I have to agree with Mora here, I see Flaws in him, he is very slow, if you put him in against a fast fighter with power he might finally get dropped. GGG leaves himself open a lot.

He just has the aura around him that puts fear in people and makes them tense, and his power is heavy.

Mora would be a good test only if he had some power.

We would see how GGG does when he fights Mora next after destroying Murray. Like to see how he deals with Mora type of style.

Very good assessment by Mora. His power will always give him that chance of winning with one punch no matter who he fights but I will be interested in seeing how he will handle somebody like Lara. Boo-Boo is way to stationary though.

A bunch of nonsense. Who are those great movers GGG has been kept away from?

Lara is a GBP/Haymon fighter who fights on Showtime. GGG has an exclusive contract with HBO. And as far as I know, there was no serious offer or negotiations. Lara was just mouthing off.

Andrade? Another jr. MW, and no one even knew who he was before a year ago. And if he doesn't want to move up to fight Korobov for a title, why would he move up for GGG?

Or is this clown talking about himself? He should try to solve his Vera problems before even thinking of uttering GGG's name.

And the comparison with Chavez jr. is not valid because:

              1) GGG's opp is much better than Chavez's. Geale is easily better than anyone Jr has ever beaten. So is Macklin arguably.

              2) Jr beat his mediorce opponents in close, workmanlike fashion. GGG wrecks them.

"great" spoiler MORA, who lost twice to "great" wooden VERA, thinks he would beat ggg? it sounds like anecdote. ggg wants ward/froch/canelo/cotto/chavez. ggg's camp is waiting for an offer. loeffler's email box is still empty. btw, for those showtime fighters. ggg fights on hbo. please don't forget.

Mora would most likely make the fight very stinky indeed but at least he seems to want the fight. I wouldn't mind seeing it, it would at least present something different.
