All Golovkin's opponents combined don't have a tenth of the skill James Toney had.

If Toney showed up in shape and focused, he would probably embarrass Golovkin.

A motivated Toney would definitely beat GGG lol, I don't even want to think about the range of punches Toney would hit GGG with. And the fact that Toney can talk a punch makes it even more difficult for GGG to put him away.

I actually think if anyone has the style to beat GGG it's Toney, but he did get busted for steroids. Golovkin didn't. How is that an assumption?

You can't just arbitrarily reverse that situation then throw a race card smoke grenade to cover your escape.

He's a cheat, his resume is worthless and his "prime" is fantasy just like those other cheats.

If boxing was properly regulated they'd have all had their records invalidated and been slapped with life bans but it isn't so we still have people talking up their tainted careers.
Point is we don't know who's doing what. So saying steroid use somehow invalidates some argument is silly. Toney got caught way after he was at 160. Do we know what he was using back then? No. Do we know what golovkin is or isn't using now? No. It's ail assumptions. If u want to have adult conversations make adult points. I think Toney beats golovkin as well. But I have no issue with anyone who thinks otherwise. But this whole, "it doesn't matter because he used steroids" argument is weak.

You look at his best night not his worst , they all have bad nights most of the time its when in with the lower grade fighters because they dont get up for them , at 160-168 Toney was a hell of fighter far better than anything GGG has been in with .

Gee he is slurring bad .

Wait, so you're saying we should give a known drug cheat the benefit of the doubt?

Toney - Known drug cheat - very logical to assume his career is tainted with steroids.

Golovkin - No known use of drugs or accusations related to drugs - very logical to assume until he is found with steroids in his system he's a clean fighter.

I'm not saying anything about any benefit of the doubt. James Toney had a full hof career before he got caught using peds. Was he using it before then? Who the **** knows. But if u want to assume he was then it is that an assumptuon. It's not proven there's no facts that's suggest he was actually. U can't make up facts to support a weak argumemt. U don't wanna say Toney beats golovkin fine. But assuming that he was a ped user at MW because he used when he was past prime and over weight is not a fact it is an assumptuon. And once u start making assumptions it becomes a slippery slope. Don't hurt your heads too much over it kiddos. This discussion is about Toney vs. Golovkin at 160. Toney wasn't caught on peds at 160 so why should it be considered as factual? An assumptuon is just that, an assumptuon. James Toney is a HOFer. His whole career doesn't get erased because of something that happened towards the end of it. That's why he will be a first ballot hall of famer and that's why the discussion is even worth having.

We've seen the best of Toney.
We haven't seen the best of Golovkin.

Toney is proven, Golovkin is not. And Daniel Geale doesn't quite compare to Mike McCallum.Toney would do a number on Golovkin and win a decisive unanimous decision or better. And he'd definitely check GGG's chin so we can see what he can handle and for how long.

As far as steroids, the fact that Toney tested positive twice shows that he probably was a long time user. Like most boxers. There are plenty of fights where I felt someone was juicing but ultimately, if they didn't test positive for that fight, I can't take credit away from them. That's really the problem with boxing, it's an uneven devil's playground. There will always be people who find a way to beat tests but at the very least some real stringent form should be in place.

Toney was a master counter puncher with a slippery defense and very hard to hit cleanly.
                    stop reading wikipedia, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjlhCQXRLAE#t=7m20s

7:20 s. how about ggg's left hook? it would be fatal.

I am a big fan of both James Toney and GGG.

Toney had real skill and pop, but yes he was flawed as a total package.

He still had the best nickname in boxing...

                      'Lights Out!'

GGG is more likable and overall more entertaining and consistent.
