I'd personally like to see the Pavlik that beat taylor the first time fight GGG; That would've been fun TV. I'd favor GGG.

Serg was a Pretty Good Middleweight Champ, not quite great. His wins over Pavlik, Williams and Jr. are why. It wasn't his fault Pavlik was an alcoholic during their fight. He still took the fight back from Pavlik in the later rounds after he looked like he was slowing down. He completely devoted himself to that overhand left he stopped Punisher with. He frustrated Jr. for 11 rounds and took his best shots and got up.

Serg said he ain't Carlos Monzon, he knows it and so does everybody else. But he was still a pretty good champ, and I think his best would be a toss up with GGG that just stopped Rubio.

GGG wanted to fight Martinez since he made the move to the US. Sergio would've never stood a chance, his promoter, Douchebella knew it too.

Fight Golovkin on free HBO or fight Miguel Cotto on PPV. Hmmm tough choice

Yeah, because that's the only time Martinez had to fight GGG. And he got embarrassed all the same.

Hmmm.. in true Dirk fashion. First trying to play the bidness side, then overlooking the true greats in Murray and Macklin. P4P one of the most demented posters on the site.

I've always liked watching Sergio fight. It's a pitty he has to go out like that.

What I don't get: Why do people always act like GGG have a bad defense? It's actually really good for a come forward fighter. He's no Ruslan Provodnikov.

Sergio's defense was solid, but he was hitable. Look at his fights against Macklin or Barker. I don't want to say they came close to beating him. It's not like that, but they were game and also caught him with some solid shots before getting stopped late.

Golovkin is just walking through guys like Barker and Macklin. He's a different animal. In terms of offense he's head and shoulders above every middleweight since Jones or Toney. Pavlik was also a great offensive fighter, but he was ****ing big and strong. Golovkin does magical things in the ring.

I see Sergio's fast jab giving Golovkin a bloody nose, a cut or a swollen eye in the first couple of rounds. Maybe he can even shake Golovkin up at one or two occasions, because he had excellent hand speed and wasn't afraid to mix it up. Sergio was really tough. However, I also see Golovkin getting to Sergio with his shifting and unleash his deadly combinations when he have him against the ropes. It would have been an awesome fight for the first 5 or 6 rounds. But in second half of the fight I see Martinez in trouble, because basically his fast legs are his defense and you can't move away from a guy like Golovkin the whole fight. He's a master of cutting the ring of and his jab is also quite good. It's not like Golovkin don't know how to outbox a guy himself. He also managed to score against guys like Dirrell and Bute in the amateurs.

I think the fight would have been a classic and because Martinez had an awesome stamina in his prime there's a solid chance he would have made it to the final bell. However, I can't see him winning enough rounds to get a decision. As I said before: His legs are his defense. When he's in distance or against the ropes Golovkin would score and eventually knock him down or even out.

Nah, Martinez was robbed in Cintron fight, but he wasn't robbed in the first Williams fight. Yes, it was close, but Williams won Martinez fight. Justly and fairly. GGG would've beat any version of Martinez, because GGG has a truly antidote style for Martinez. KO/TKO 8.

                  Totally agree.

Pirog had a far bigger claim to fighting Martinez around the time of the Macklin fight. Golovkin was completely unknown. The only time the fight was truly viable was after the Murray fight but Sergio got Cotto.

I think prime Sergio would mark him up but GGG would eventually catch him and wear him down. Martinez's defense was also too open and with the way GGG cuts off the ring he'd always be in position to land something big, eventually he would imo.
