WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) is a tough nut to crack. Light heavyweight contender Edwin Rodriguez believes WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) is the man to do it.

Ward, inactive since 2013, has been sitting on the bench while fighting a legal battle to part ways with his promoter Goossen Promotions. Rodriguez was the last boxer who Ward faced in the ring. The much larger man saw himself dominated over twelve rounds.

i think the match up is pretty even honestly, gloveking is a much better boxer than people seem to be giving him credit for lately. you don't win 340 plus amateur fights by not being good boxer. andre being a a being a bit better as a boxer and ggg being a harder puncher makes it a close call.

Easily, handedly, no doubt! If there's a superior class in the sport it's Andre Ward & he stands alone! Andre Ward, there's only one!

This is a difficult match up to call. On the one hand, GGG hasn't really been tested, so you'd fancy Ward, with his proven experience and class, to come through as the victor. On the other, Ward has been inactive for some time and looked horrible in his last outing, while GGG is on the rise; he seems to improve, in multiple aspects of his 'game', with every bout.

Let's not forget, too, that Ward has touched down in his career. GGG, as far as I am aware, has not.

True, however it's more than likely he got through all those amateur fights on his power/Mexican style rather than mixing it up and coming with a pure boxers style.

Very good point. Ward's sort of being remembered with a god-like untouchable status due to the fact we're never seeing him in the ring when he's still just a guy with gloves on. If Froch can land, and Boone can drop him (albeit very early into his career) then a proficient and powerful boxer in GGG can do a bit of hurtin'.

Very likely. Right now Andre Ward isn't outboxing anyone, though. He kind of has to fight to outbox anyone.

I would say yeah I agree -- but back when Ward was actually active. Now? It's a different story entirely. Ward needs to get back in there and get at minimum one, if not two, tune up type fights under his belt to shake off any rust before getting in the ring with Gennady.
