Does cotto have a legacy??

He is a hall of famer, there is no denying that. Thought it was important to establish that first.
NOW, he is two big wins away from cementing his legacy as an ATG.
If he manages to beat Canelo AND either of, Mayweather/Golovkin. You HAVE to put him in those discussions, no doubt about it.Comment

not an ATG by any stretch, but a genuine hall of famer.
cotto's a very good fighter. i think he's at least competitive in any era. he loses to virtually every great WW, but that's nothing to be ashamed about. WW has some great, great fighters.Comment

if he beats mayweather, golovkin, and alvarez, he'd skyrocket on the all time list.
golovkin in particular would be a massive win. that guy is a freaking true middleweight, and very clearly the best in the world at the weight.
obvioulsy beating floyd mayweather wouldn't be anything to scoff at, eitherComment

After getting his ass wooped by Canelo and Lara then his very poor performance in his most recent fight, he's had a tough breakComment

I think he is just about finished at the highest level. He caught a terrific fighter when said fighter was all but shot. I'm not sure how many top level guys he beats at 147-160. I don't think he beats any elite middleweight and there's really only one who falls into elite category: GGG. Can he beat Canelo? Possibly.
Pacquiao or ***** in a rematch? No.
Trout 2? Possibly.
Lara? No.
Cotto will have a very carefully constructed 2015, earn big money and then be off. He might carry on fighting post 2015 but it will be as a "name" or "gate keeper"Comment

I don't think he is an under achiever. He was supposed to lose to Martinez but he won in a great performance. He is an excellent fighter who falls just short of being an all time great. He can't make KO loses to Pacquiao and Margarito when Cotto was in his prime go away. He can't beat GGG or Mayweather or unify the middleweight title because he is not a good enough fighter to do these things. He makes the hall of fame but comes up just short of being an all time great although his biggest fans will insist he is an all time great. It's possible he could defeat Floyd in a rematch but that would not get him all time great status because he is many years younger and pounds heavier than Mayweather.Comment
