Comments Thread For: Jackson: Kovalev Has To Treat Hopkins Like an Old Man

John David Jackson, trainer of WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, is preparing a calculated strategy to wear down WBA/IBF champion Bernard Hopkins. Their unification is scheduled for November 8th from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Kovalev will be looking to wear Hopkins down in the first six rounds and then continue to apply the pressure in the remaining rounds. Jackson believes the 49-year-old Hopkins will finally, after decades, look his age and succumb to the punishment.

That is a good strategy. A senior citizen shouldn't be able to keep up with a young, strong bull.

Kovalev needs to be careful of the sneaky head butts causing cuts over his eyes.

Hopkins cut Dawson, Cloud, Murat, Wright and just about every other opponent he's faced in recent years.

Old B-Hop knows every dirty trick in the book and has experience using them.

If I was kovalev I would donthis
Rd shoot your 1-2s to the chest and left hooks tonthe shoulder area

The way b hop leans and keeps his head away from rt hands
Will land on the old on the old mans body . Walk him down in rd 2 and donthe same.
By rd 3 and 4 b hop will be mentally and physically fatigued. His older bodybarmor will give out sooner and he will resort to his tactics.

Kovalev in rd 3 and 4 nedds to use smart pressure. Cut and turn . Allow b hop to move and force hime to move often wasting energy. By rd 5 and 6 .go balls out and get the old man out
With sheer youth toughness and power. Hit anything. Be nasty.

Hop will quit and find a way out.

Here's the PERFECT gameplan designed by yours truly:

          - ATTACK / FOCUS on the body from the opening bell. Take away some of the stamina that allows Hopkins to stay crafty and mobile through the fight.

          - CHOP DOWN mentality as opposed to one big shot mentality. Score points while breaking him down to get rounds, the KO/TKO should come as a result of that. Don't waste the fight trying to land one big shot, NOT HAPPENING.

          - IF CLINCHING, push him down, wear him down physically. You are the physically stronger man.

          - DO NOT focus on his age. You will be frustrated if you do. Hopkins is not an old fighter. Understand this and keep your composure.

Kovalev should have a pretty successful fight if he keeps these key points in mind.

I don't understand all this B-Hop will quit talk.

It was anti-climatic but he landed badly when Dawson slammed him.
Why is his heart in question? His toughness should never be questioned.
We've never seen Kovalev taken into deep water or seen how he responds to adversity.

You'd think it was Victor Ortiz stepping in there

I'm predicting Kov KOs HOpkins with a body shot..people act like Hopkins has been fighting elite opponents...he fought a few bums and got schooled by Dawson...Still hasn't taken that random-blood test yet either...

                And who has Kovalev fought?

I just can't pick Hopkins to lose this fight. That's not a knock on Kovalev either I think he knocks Stevensons ****** ass the **** out.

Hopkins has something up his sleeve for this fight, he will most likely stink the place up and UD Kovalev.
