Sparring is the most important thing.

      There's wind, & stamina.....& then there's boxing wind & stamina.
Sparring gives you that. You are actually boxing with a human, who's hitting you back. Everything is being worked on, from a technical & conditioning point.

Running, is the second most important aspect.

Hatton does train hard but he doesn't train the way Mayweather does. Mayweather stays in the gym and doesn't allow himself to get out of shape the way alot of fighters do. That's why alot of fighters need 12 week training schedules and he only needs 6 weeks.

The most under-focused part of training is defense. When you watch MOST guys do padwork, they do not incorporate dxefense into it at all. (PBF does, though). Most boxers leave defense out of their training until they start sparring. And even then, it is misleading because they are so padded up that they take hits that don't hurt them in training, but DO hurt them during the fight.

Rope drills help give you a defensive mindset, but that seems to have lost favor with alot of trainers.

From the successes of Mayweather and Calzaghe, I hope that more guys become increasingly defensive-oriented.

                I totally agree.
Part of the problem is that both teaching & learning defense just isn't as much fun as working on offense.

What fighters need to know is how a true defense can set up your offense.

All of it is important. Sparring is a guage to show where you are at.

I've read all the posts on your topic, but how about simply showing up for practice PERIOD! ALOT OF WANNABE-CHAMPS FAIL TO DO THAT.

EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A CHAMPION, BUT DON'T SHOW UP AT THE GYM!

yeah true ....manny said on the Toney fight sparring was more important then running ...or he would take it over running if he could only have a fighter do 1 or the other
