Lewis had many great nights throughout his career. Vitali Klitschko was just a footnote and a bonus win at the end of a legendary career.
    Which he clearly did.

See that's the point-see chavez v Taylor. Taylor was winning rounds but Chavez was wearing him down. the fight wasn't "close" on the cards but because you could see the effect it was having on Taylor the fight was closer than the cards indicated.

Not to over simplify, but beating someone in 4 100 yard dashes or 2 200 yard doesn't mean you will beat them in 1 400 yd dash?

I'm not one of Klitschko's fans. In fact, so never liked either one. Ironically, I became a huge fan of Lennox Lewis after he retired.

I have no bias towards either of these guys. Just offering up something to talk about, or for some people not talk about.

Sure as hell beats another May-Pac thread.

Cut the name calling, or you can both join Vitali in TKO land.

I will give Lennox a pass on the duck part since he did retire for good and never fought again.. And even admitted that he didn't have the desire and hunger needed to beat the really outstanding young contenders.. He said his career goals were Tyson, bowe, Holyfield, and after that he just didn't have any desire and didn't hold the title hostage from the klitchkos..

Lennox Lewis retired at 38 years old after a legendary career. He can retire when he wants because he earned it. His life doesn't depend on Vitali Klitschko.

              Vitali Klitschko is a footnote

Yeah but he was not clear about it. He said to Larry ringside that he would give the rematch if the money was right, which they obviously would have been. He was pretending, then woke up the next morning and thought different. Vitali scared him into retirement, there is no way around it.

He was already semi-retired and with the shape he came in for the Klitschko fight, he wasn't taking it seriously any more. Still enough to wreck Vitali's face but he clearly didn't have the desire to train properly any more. There's no point in fighting on if you're not going to do it 100%.

I would have taken that better if he didnt promise vit the rematch and renege on it

Suppose Lewis landed that same punch, but Klotschko wasn't cut, then what?
Seek you are missing one thing, respectfully.

As of the 5th round, Vitali essentially needed a KO to win because his eye was so bad that a stoppage loomed. to say he was "up" or the fight "wasn't close" doesn't take this into consideration. The scorecards were in effect meaningless.

Had the cut been caused by a headbutt and not a punch then you would have a good point. But since it was a punch Vitali was "on the clock". A fighter in his position is not really "winning" the fight.
