As long as these are not SHOWCASE setups, I'm okay with that but I'm getting tired of boxing, and that goes for all managers, promoters putting on shows that are 70% filled with showcase fights against hapless, helpless opponents such as opponents who have numerous losses, lost 4 out of their last 5 fights, been stopped many times, short notice, no solid skills or power, just to make another fighter look good. NBC needs to put their foot down and say, "okay, you want to showcase your 15-0 or 15-1 fighter, well good. Then put him up against an 18-1 or 14-0 or at least a 15-2 fighter that has won 5-10 straight fights, NOT SOME DAMN 16-12 or 15-7 opponent!! *** that! That sht got old long ago!Comment

A scenario where Floyd could make enough money for his fight not to be on PPV would have to work like this. The fight would have to be in England, against Amir Khan or Kell Brook. The fight would have to be at 3am over there to accommodate the Prime Time NBC slot over here. He could sell out a stadium over there with a big juicy gate and have the fight on PPV in the UK. That would offset the money lost on the US PPV.
If he can make 20 million from the UK gate and PPV money plus lets say 5 million from the commercial money over here it could happen. Including all the international TV money and sponsors it's possible.
Floyd would have to take a pay cut but it could open the doors to a big juicy contract on NBC.
They could also do the fight in Dubai or another rich Arab location to get a big site fee.
All hypothetical of course.Comment

Anybody that thinks this whole Al Haymon UFC-boxing league is a good thing is ******ed.
This is the guy who has been actively protecting his fighters with bull**** matchups. If you think that's gonna change once he has ALL the control....Comment

I'm not holding my breath for real fights on NBC much less NBC Sports. Haymon has to find the advertisers willing to put up big money for a sport that has been absent on NETWORK TV. We aren't talking about the ****e network here and NBC isnt fronting any money, Haymon is paying NBC not the other way around.
Keep in mind that Al's fighters are used to getting large checks, so unless they can get the advertisers, how are we to expect to see the Garcias and Broners on NBC?Last edited by racer59; 10-02-2014, 11:29 AM.Comment

How do you know exactly what was asked? It was a media gathering at the fight last night. She was answering questions. Haymon's NBC deal is not something that just came up out of the blue by Kathy Duva. It's been talked about for a while now.Comment

If I see Jose Benavidez or Jesse Magdaleno against yet another 16-14 or 15-7 fighter or any other prospect going against another fighter that does not belong on our TV sets, I am going to get a petition put together to protest to try to stop these blatant mismatches and get email addresses and phone numbers of those responsible. The networks need to stop letting fighters keep their training wheels on for eternal gravy-train setups.Last edited by richardt; 10-02-2014, 11:30 AM.Comment
