I think you're vastly underrating GGG's star power. Rubio isn't a huge ticket-seller out in California. Plenty of Mexicans have fought at StubHub Center (Brandon Rios comes to mind) without them making standing room tickets available.

I don't remember Joel Casamayor having this much trouble getting fights. If I recall he fought some of the biggest names of his division.

And if Yuriorkis Gamboa wasn't such an idiot bailing on a winnable fight against Rios, he could have been bigger than he was.

        It's not a Cuban thing. It's a style thing.
        Action sells, overly defensive doesn't.
its not solely a cuban thing, but its certainly a factor. fighters who have nations behind them will get fans automatically as soon as they turn pro. if luis ortiz changed nationalities with wilder or joshua they would change the amount of hype and opportunities they receive as well. cubans have to work harder to get ahead in this game.

mayweather sells pretty well as did ali, pep, benitez and many others with defensive styles. but they too could turn to groups of people to support them. does rigos style have a part in this? sure. but to say thats the only reason is beyond ******ed. its a combination of things.

primarily rigo doesnt get fights because he is too good, his style, size and nationality all play a factor in why he doesnt sell tickets. none the less, him not selling tickets is still a poor excuse in the end. if you are a true champion you want to fight the best and prove yourself.

besides, if any of these guys actually beat rigo they would set themselves up to make piles of money in the coming fights from the credibility earned by beating him. beating an amateur legend with two olympic gold medals who is undefeated as a pro and universally recognized as the best at 122 and one of the very best fighters p4p..

that will make you a name over night and make the whole world pay attention. that will put all the cards in your hands in any upcoming negotiation and allow you to take home the lion share of any purse in the future.

only problem is you would have to beat him for that to happen and nobody believes they can do that, so they use any excuse they can come up with to avoid him.

If GGG was fighting within fifty miles of you, I'll bet you'd be buying tickets to see him. I live in the Bay Area but I'm flying down to SoCal to see him at the StubHub Center.

If GGG were fighting within driving distance I would go see him. Just like I would any other top fighter. Still doesn't mean I respect his resume.

Now I know why he pulled out of the fight. Avalos had a chance to fight Rigondeaux for $19,000. He would have ended up giving 10 percent of that to his trainer, 10 percent to his manager added to whatever he pays his cutman and paying 30 percent in taxes. That would leave him with $9,000 at most. Or he could fight Frampton for $200,000 or more and end up netting 10 times that amount. I would have pulled out of the fight too. To hell with legacy! Legacy doesn't pay any bills, buy any diapers or put any food on the table.

No boxer worth his salt goes into a fight thinking he is going to get the hell beat out of him. Only immature fans think that way. Avalos is confident in his ability to beat both Rigondeaux and Frampton. The only trade off, in Avalos' mind, is that he will make 10 to 20 times as much money beating Frampton's a.ss as he would Rigondeaux's. You wouldn't take a job at McDonalds for $10 an hour when you could work at Burger King doing the same thing for $100 an hour. No one in his right mind, not even you, would take a job paying $19,000 when you could get a similar job paying $200,000. Whether you believe it or not, nobody, not even Manny Pacquaio, fights for legacy.
