I never thought of it this way. All this fuss over the May date when Cotto himself is a big name and makes his "home" out of MSG where a big PR celebration takes place. He is the veteran and MW champ. so he's gonna want some say. I mean look what he made Sergio.

cotto is a diva. he probably earned it and i'm not here to bash him for that.

you gotta be an idiot to assume cotto would just let canelo call the shots without saying anything. i don't know exactly what the issue would be between mexicans and puerto ricans like demanding a non mexican to fight on one of their holidays. we'll gonna have to wait for cotto's input on this.

It's not going to force Mayweather v Pacquiao. It should be obvious to everyone that HBO, Arum and Oscar are on the same wave length, which is why the attacks against Mayweather's character and appeal to the public to boycott him preceded Canelo challenging him for the date. We will most likely get Canelo v Cotto in May and Canelo v Pacquiao in September.

Felix Trinidad fought DLH on September 18th a couple days after Mexican Independence Day.

Not much difference in that and fighting Canelo a few days before Cinco de Mayo next year.

No matter what, the fight is going to be promoted by a Mexican beer company to a largely Hispanic/Mexican audience.

Might as well do it on a date that will help him maximize the profits.
